My oil change adventure...
eh... I'm pretty sure the service manuel would be correct. I'm thinking it's good to give the oils time to break down. 15k miles beating on the c_r is good. Just trying to save this guy some money, and time.
BTW.. quick question:
I only had one gear oil pump. Most DIY's call for two. I used one of those small red Mityvac hand pumps to facilitate the fluid transfer.
Since I only had the one pump, what I ended up doing was changing the diffs and t-case first. Once finished, I then pumped out as much of the fluid I could from the pump and its tubes. I then inserted the intake tube into the can containing the transmission fluid and I pumped out a few splashes to flush out the rest of the differential/t-case fluid. I then proceeded to fill the transmission.
Was this ok to do? I am concerned about fluid contamination, but I'm assuming with my process I was able to flush out most the previous LSD fluid left in the pump and tubes. Anything remaining would not be significant enough to cause contamination or harm to the transmission?

Why are you running a 50W oil in the Evo? The factory recommends 10W- 30 and 50W may be too heavy compared to 30W. I have read and been told by experienced engine builders that the thicker oils can strain weak oil pumps and generally are overkill for street cars. That said, you are using a high quality oil, so maybe it is different (I have no idea).
The reason I ask is because I run 10W-30 Mobil 1 and wonder if there are better options. Thanks

Dude don't ;isten to these people. Take it from someone who has replaced the Transfer Case once already on their 06... xhange the fluids as often as you want (especially the TC).
50W is nothing to him; his E46 M3 takes Castrol 10w60
I actually had my tranny fluid changed out at 1500mi as well; mostly because I had notchy shifting and wanted to try the BG Synchroshift II fluid. Anyway, my shop told me they found a good amount of metal shavings built up as well - that can't be good...

I'll back the driveline fluid change decision. My TC and diff fluids were a thick, grey mess. The magnetic plugs had metal shaving sculptures that I should have taken photos of.
After the driveline fluid change, it may just be the placebo effect, but my IX-MR felt lighter on her feet. I know I felt a whole helluva lot better about getting on her in the twisties

You should be okay.
I changed my oil at 500 miles... then at 1000.. then at 3000... then every 2500 to 3k from there...
tranny fluid i changed at 2k then at 8k.. then at 15k and then just about every 5k from there.. i do track the car... i even did the hard break in.. everything is still smooth and strong... wut doesnt hurt it can only make it stronger

NYC wear and tear makes it reasonable to change more frequently. Good call on the crush washer. 0-50 is a little much for our motors; I track a 0w30 ester-base oil (Motul).
Glad you made the move from the M3 to the Evo, you'll enjoy (sans the turning radius which it makes it all but easy to execute quick u-turns.

As for the crush washer... I was really surprised as well to see that mine didn't have one. I'm assuming that when they swapped the oil drain plug for the oil temp sender, they forgot to use it. I suggest that for those who had the MR gauge pack installed, that you check for the presence of that washer. I noticed some oil residue around the oil pan near the drain yesterday before doing the oil change, which leads me to think that some of the oil was seeping out.
I am getting close to 20,000 on my evo i have done nothing but oil change and check the other Fluids in the car sense i have had it.
In my DSM i change them every 20,000 miles.
I guess my question is i don't think i have waited to long the car get mostly highway miles and has never been to a track.
I am changing the oil every 3,000 miles but i don't think i can aford to change the tranny and diff's every 5k like TRE says
"MITSUBISHI DIAQUEEN LIMITED SLIP GEAR OIL
This is the oil that Mitsubishi recommends in the EVO transfer case & rearend. We recommend changing the transfer case & rear end oil every 5000 miles."
