Tuning for 87 grade fuel?

Not that I would do this but I thought of it and now i'm just curious.
Can you detune your evo so you can use 87(regular) gas.

If I were you I would not attempt to run 87 fuel. Even de-tuned it will most likely cause damage to your engine.

Besides the amount of power you would lose from that gas and the de-tuning would make owning an EVO almost pointless.

That's just wrong, but if you can't afford the gas it can be done.

Yeah, you could easily tune for wastegate boost and no timing, but wheres the fun in having an evo with 180 wheel HP.

even when tuned correctly carbon buildup is major fast with 87 octane. compression would keep going higher with carbon build-up. now 87 with meth/water injection can work quite well. the meth/water will keep the combustion chamber clean.

I have seen this happen a lot in Hondas. All that carbon buildup leading to astronomical compression test numbers. I think I gained over a half point of compression on my old GSR engine.

In a turbo car, 87 octane is just a bad idea! Anything is possbible though.

If you can't get an 87 tune, just take out the turbo. You'll get Yaris fuel economy.

You'd get even better gas mileage if you sold the car and bought a DX civic.

why not leave ur evo for the weekend and buy an old honda beater.... it will pay for itself plus lower insurance in a year or two from lower gas cost and wear/tear on evo.
