350z To Evo
...The Evo definately has the advantage in the modding department, but the Z has more potential (3.5 compared to a 2.0)... there's no denying that. The Evo's gonna cost less to mod and show better gains (with bolt-ons), but with a built engine and twins on the Z, it will very much out-perform an Evo (but will cost MUCH more). The Z is not a car for a modder on a budget...

You got the inexpensive part right for Evo's. Z's are no joke to build... on of my friends got his built several months back and paid well over $25K for the build (not including the turbo kit itself).

Z prolly won't trap that high, but I am letting you know that a stock E46 runs 13.1 at 105. There is no way stock Evo can not take a stock e46 from roll so here you go.
Even from Dig you have have a good launch to have advantage, but at the end M3 will catch up and walk you.

I've never had a problem with any of the three M3's I ran, stock or not.

That would be because NO Z comes with a sunroof... that's why you DON'T have the sunglass holder. Non-SSL Evo's have them (that's where I keep my garage door opener).

z has a better shifting feel, its alot lower and the seat sits alot lower(evo felt like going to a truck to me), evo handles better and is faster. i was really dissapointed in the speed of the z the few months i had it. both cars have great strong engines, and are both expensive as hell to mod.
I found the Evo to be pretty cheap or at least even to what I've seen out there. The 1&2G DSMs notwithstanding.
At this stage of the Evo's aftermarket developement - assuming you don't buy stupid bolt ons, I think the Evo is one of the best HP per Mod dollar out there.
Parts are getting cheaper all the time, starting to look like DSM prices.
Plus it easy as crap to work on (The clutch notwithstanding :-) Although you can get good at anything if you do it enough.

When I first traded in my 350Z my girlfreind hated the evo. After the break-in and some serious driving she quickly changed her mind and the car has grown on here. She wants more and more. Now with modding and washing it all the time she has once again started to hate my evo for some reason
