Another evo to m3 thread.....
Buying a slightly used and well cared for car = Great Idea
Buying a demo = Stupid idea if it is a performance car
Demos are never broken in properly and abused to death.
Case in point, I was at my local Porsche/Audi dealer to demo a BRAND NEW no miles RS4. I took it out for a drive and was very easy on it including short shifting, no sustained revs, no hard braking, etc. The dealer was encouraging me to beat on it and push it to the limit which I was not interested in doing as someone else was going to own that car. I represent a minority, most people would have beat the hell out of it and done so for many 100's of miles until some guy who didn't know any better spent $74K and an abused, not properly broken in car. Granted they don't give the keys out to just anyone but still. Same thing with a new AMG and Aston Martin that I drove, the dealer insisted that I stomp on it and I wouldn't.
If this is what happens with high-end machines, what do you think happens to realatively inexpensive cars like Minis, 335s, etc!
I bought an Evo 900 miles away because I think break-in is important and every one around hear had 25-100 miles on it. You can bet those were hard miles. BTW, When I first went test drive the Evo, I asked for a used one and took that for a drive instead (they had offered up a "new" one).
At least if you buy a used car from the original owner, you can get a feel for how it was treated, be it good or bad. Not so with a demo and you can bet it was flogged no matter what the dealer claims!

There are so many foolish statements/ideas presented, I don't know where to start - I'll just laugh and prey for you and the minority you represent
the s4 is priced right... the rs4 is over priced....
free maintnence for 4 years and theyre actually not too bad... i had mine for 65k from new and it didnt cost me anything but tires and gas..... they replaced my clutch under warranty at 45k and free brake pads...

38000 seems like a good price. If you could hold on till the new m3 comes out, the old prices will drop even more. The car probably is worth 38k, but when the new M3 comes out, you will lose alot of value. I have it set in my mind, that when the new M3 comes out, I will trade in the G for it

I think most people here are firm believers in proper break-in which is something almost never done on demos. So I would find a nice one owner car if it were me shopping and I couldn't get an undemoed new one. And besides, any deal that you can get on a demo, can be gotten on a brand new car as dealers are not giving any of their cars away at a loss.
The coment that I made about picking a car up 900 miles away to get one that hadn't been beaten on was a gross exageration as the difference between 5 miles and 15 or 25 is not significant. There were obviously other reasons such as color, options and price but it served to make a good point. However, I would have picked up an Evo that was 900 miles away with all else being equal if the local car had 200 demo miles and there were only 5 or 10 miles on the other.
+1 for the E30 M3.
the m3 is a badass car and i love em. the 335 is sweet as well. The only thing that would make me own one though. would be if i dedicated my evo to track duty.
i dont think i will ever sell the evo. eventually it will be a tricked out track car that gets trailered to the track.
