Gas Fluctuations? Confused.

I recently installed a TBE and I'm unsure if that has anything to do with my problem or not....

My problem is that the last three tanks of gas my MPG has significantly decreased to a noticeable level and the gas gauge appears to have fluctations. For example, I will be driving and the gas guage will be slightly above a quarter tank, then drop slightly below, and the go back up to a quarter of a tank....

Anyone have any experiences with this? I'm getting a tune this week so that might help lean it out but I was wondering if somethings up with my stock gas tank (only 4k miles on my IX) due to the fluctuations.

You probably see fluctuations during acceleration and braking due to the gas moving in the tank. I would also venture to say you have been in the turbo a lot more since your exhaust install which probably is leading to decreased gas mileage.

Most Japanese cars actually have this same problem. For some reason people will report better mileage during the first half of the tank than the second half. It's just the way the sender is built. I find that driving up and down long hills also significantly changes my gas gauge. After going up a long hill my neddle will be much lower, but after a bit of flat driving it returns to normal. So no need to worry. I would however get yourself a tune from somebody like Jestr

Thanks for the advise. It seems that at 3/4 of a tank its been fluctuating a lot...

I'm getting a tune from 4 Wheel Side for my TBE tomorrow. Hopefully it will help.

The weird thing is I didnt notice this fluctuation when I drove my car for the first 4k miles, but now I notice it. Worth taking to the dealership prior to a tune?

It could be you. A new exhaust will make you want to get on it more often so you can hear the fruits of your labor. And with any performance car, a slightly heavier foot will mean a nosedive in MPG.
