is Mitsubishi service trying to screw me over...?
Here's the story - so I take the Evo in for the 15,000 mile service a couple months ago. Tech says I need new front brake pads so I say ok and he installs them and does the full brake job/etc.
Two weeks later I take a ~500 mile trip. After this trip I feel that my steering wheel is shaking when braking at speeds over 60mph. I take it back to service and they say that the brakes somehow warped, so they "peeled" the front rotors (or whatever the process is called) and the car seemed to work fine.
Another two weeks later I take another ~500 mile trip. Same problem with the brakes again... I take it back to service today and the tech tells me that my best bet is to get new front powerslot rotors. I'm like WTF the car only has 19,000 miles on it why would I need new rotors. He says he can continue doing the rotor job but it will just make them thinner and thinner until I need new ones anyways. He told me to find front powerslot rotors online (so it would be cheaper) and that he'd install them for me and charge me only 1 hour of work.
Does this seem right? Car is an 06 Evo with 19,000 miles on it.
Thanks!!

you should try contacting the service mgr and ask them to replace under warranty, don't think rotors should be replaced at such a low mileage but prob. is the case due to extreme warm weather (where you are) and applying the hot brakes at the rotor location at stop signs/red lights at high temp = warping.

Did you break in the new pads properly?
I had an issue where I thought I had a warped rotor.. Turned out that I must've braked hard and sat at a light with my foot on the brake. The pad had 'glazed' a part of my rotor so it felt like it was warped because of the difference in friction between the glazed and normal sections of the rotor. It literally felt like someone had varnished a part of my rotor, but it was VERY tough as it withstood quite a bit of driving after it happened.
When you come to a stop after hard braking (Say after getting off the highway) don'tt let the pads stay clamped to your rotor. nearly come to a stop early and let the car slowly roll forward to keep the pads from hovering over a single part of the rotor, and don't keep your foot on the brake if you can help it.

I would talk to the service manager and push the issue as far as you can for new rotors. If that doesn't work tell him your calling Mitsu and putting in a complaint, that usually pushes them allong.
Search for "brake pad bedding". That is most likely your problem.
