Dealer sell me an un-wanted accessory, what is that???

Hi all,

When i got my car, the dealer said they got me a Theft deterrant. They called it magic. They also told me that it can keep my insurance rate low. The unit cost for that accessory is $1100 and they sell it to me for $595. How that thing works is that everytime if i need to crank the motor, I have to scan it with a sensor. It's kind of like an ignition switch. I don't usually see this accessory on other cars, is it something special from my dealership?

The only deterrant on the car is the chip in the key and the key code in the ecu. What ever unit you are describing sounds aftermarket(obviously). Maybe by some chance this is the ravelco I have read about??? Does it have a separate mulit pin key looking thing?

I would just put some pitbulls in the car and call that magic.

haaahaaaahaaaa, that's funny. there is no pin on my scanner key. but it has the dealership's name on it. So is this a dealership add-on parts or is it something that the car already has, but the dealership sell it to make money?

yeah, i am pretty sure i did. They didn't put anything on the window next to the price sticker showing there is an aftermarket theft alarm or things similar to that. Most of the dealership I have went to, they list all of the accessories from the car.

Are you sure it's an actual anti-theft device and not just a $5.00 key chain?

Why did you spend $595 first and ask questions second?

Throughout my conversation with the dealership, they didn't say anything about this as a pay accessory. they make it sound like this is a gift from them. look at their ad., they give out turbo timer and free oil changes. For something like this, I thought it's only $50, I wouldn't pressume that this is an aftermarket parts. Anyway, this is not impt how it starts and why i ask the question now. I would want to find out if this is a factory part or aftermarket part.

I'll say aftermarket for $595, Alex!
