well.. the thing that got me worried is that a friend of mine (a mechanic) got a car with what he describes on the phone, a tick with the attributes as mine. and it turned out to be a damaged piston (ring land) .. the tick was the piston slapping the block!

Exhaust leaks from loose connections or cracks can result in ticking noises as you'll hear the valvetrain, and these will change in frequency along with RPM.

Mine ticks as well. It does go away when I push in the clutch, comes back when I let the clutch out. Only seems to happen at idle, or maybe I can't hear it over road and motor noise while driving. Its pretty loud. I had a friend tell me he would guess it was the throw out bearing going out.

I personally think its the AC, cause it also shuts off when I turn off the AC, or maybe that just causes enough vibration to bring it out to a noticeable level, not sure.

I got this noise as well after putting cams, gears and new belt. the belt makes a humming noise, they said it's to tight and hopefully it goes away after losening the belt.

could the tight timing belt could cause the ticking noise too?

OP, sorry to jack up your thread.

well.. it didnt happen after any new installs.. just after some heavy load and aggressive driving.

the timing belt humming is normal.. just loosen it up a bit, and give it some slack, not too much.. but just enough! or the belt might snap! happened on my RB25!
