Engine Ticking, Not Lifters
First I thought it was the injectors, too loud, too different. Used a mechanics stethoscope, thought it was a pulley. Noise was coming from the front of the block. Injector was stuck open, fuel thinned out the oil. Lots of damage. MMNA says the injectors are a known issue, and still wouldn't replace under warranty.
both my mitsubishi's tick intermittently. actually both my mitsubishi's make a lot of mysterious noises. but they both seem to run great, I just try not to worry about it because you'll go crazy chasing a percieved problem. if there's a real problem, the car will let you know and it will be very obvious.
My car does the exact same thing when its cold, clears up after a 2 min warmup. Really bad durring the winter, almost scary sounding. And to me it sounds like valve train, maybe the oil isnt getting up there quick enough? Oil pump?
Mine ticks as well. It does go away when I push in the clutch, comes back when I let the clutch out. Only seems to happen at idle, or maybe I can't hear it over road and motor noise while driving. Its pretty loud. I had a friend tell me he would guess it was the throw out bearing going out.
I personally think its the AC, cause it also shuts off when I turn off the AC, or maybe that just causes enough vibration to bring it out to a noticeable level, not sure.
