Time to lower boost. How many lbs should I run?

Hello everyone. Well, its time to lower boost. I am running about 20 pounds no tapper at the moment and my car is pretty much stock: FORGE MBC, K&N-DropIN,Boost_gauge. However, I am getting my new Turbo XS Ti Turbo Back Exhaust with test pipe this week and Im assuming I will have to lower my boost due to too much airflow with the Exhaust on. What amount would be considered? I will post pics of it installed on my car asap

Unless you had the car flashed you shouldn't have to lower the boost beacuse it comes from the factory with Redic. Rich A/F maps. in the 9's i believe. So adding a free-Flowing exhaust isn't going to bump you to and unsafe level.

But you would still benifit from a tune after you get that exhaust on!

lower boost? you're fine as is as long as you're tuned for your mods. When you get your exhaust on, you can still run it at 20psi heckyou can turn the boost up to about 23 but it will run rich due to not having your car tuned for the exhaust. i hope this helps, if i've made any wrong statements someone please correct me.

No tune needed for the exhaust, but definately for that K&N and the excess boost you are already running. But like the other guys said, you shouldn't need to lower the boost because you added an exhuast. What would definately benefit you is getting a good tune, or at least a base flash for those mods that are adding extra air to your a/f ratio.

Agreed no need to lower your boost. Just tune the car for maximum horses & Torque.

For one, With the exhaust he's going to DEFINATLY want a tune!
And excess boost?? What are you talking about. . .20psi Stock is 19psi. . .

Once you get your exhaust on, get a tune and run about 22-23 psi

And just a tip, turboed cars love a free-flowing exhaust. More air flow=more boost you can run

Leave it or get a tune and turn it up to 22-23. That won't bother it a bit.

Your bolt ons will lower boost by themselves. You'll have to increase it with a boost controller/

Pardon my newb ignorance, but when you guys say 22-23 lbs, are you talking about having him set it so that it spikes at that level, or that it's at 22-23 after it comes down from what it spikes at?

When most people say the are running X amount of boost, the X is the peak number.

No need to be so abrasive bro. My research has led me to believe, and I still do, that a tune is not necessary when modifying your exhaust. My understanding of when a tune is needed is whenever you modify how much air or fuel being added to the equation. Secondly, 20 is clearly larger than 19 which is why I suggested he be tuned for running more boost. It may be negligible to you, but I feel that a tune is necessary if one has never been tuned, on a stock map, running more boost than stock, and has a K&N filter.
