Is this a sound of a transfer case going out

I recently noticed a whine when I'm in 2nd or 4th gear under very light acceleration.
It's most noticeable at about 2000-2500 rpm in 4th. Not as noticeable in 3rd and 5th.
It's _not_ a turbo, I know what turbo sounds like
I wish it were some cheap throwout bearing but sound seem to disappear when I take my foot off the gas or push the clutch pedal.

I know this topic had been beaten up to death, was searching for a "death whine" audio clip that was reportedly posted here a while ago but my search netted nothing. Would really appreciate if somebody posts a link

If you have an 03 with over 60k miles, just send the transfer case to shep.

Will be looking for a used transfer case, I have a new clutch kit and an RS LSD waiting to go in, would like to tackle them all at once.

Meanwhile I'll drain/replace TC oil and see if sound gets any worse.

looks like it not a transfer case. It only whines when accelarating in 4th and probably in 2nd. 2nd and 4th are on the same shaft, so it's either a bearing or a gear. Good thing these are available as separate parts from mitsu/getrag

I'll be doing a clutch soon will take a tranny and inspect a 4th gear and bearings. Anyone had similar issues with 4th gear itself or 4th gear shaft bearing ?

I thought that Shep and TRE can rebuild TCs once they start to go
