Is this a paddle shifter or an actual gear shifter with out a clutch.

As if any of us loved purchasing one clutch for our VIII's or IX's... Now we have to spring for two!

Anyhow, how would you go about launching a X with the semi auto?

This is a paddle shift gearbox with 2....yes 2 clutches....So you can look at it 2 ways....

1) you have 2 clutches, so they each take half the load and therefore will last twice as long, instead of one clutch taking the load in all 6 gears, or...

2) When they do go it will be twice as expensive to replace 2 clutches instead of one.

A glass is half-empty, half-full sort of thing.

Some of the cars with the DSG style gearboxes have a launch control system-VW has this in their GTI. You just turn of the stability control, put both feet to the floor...gas and brake on full.......engine revs to 3k, then get off the brake....the car does the rest...gives you maximum acceleration.
There is a link to a video posted somewhere here on EvoM.

The clutches on dsg are not like a 5 speed dry clutch. They are just like auto transmission wet clutch pack. A clutch change means you need tranny rebuild or new tranny. If you fry the clutch in one of these all the friction material will end up in your tranny oil. NOT GOOD.

problem with dsg is the clutch holding capacity. the two clutches do not sit side by side. they sit in same plane. one is much smaller diameter than the other. the smaller diameter one limits the torque holding capacity of the transmission.

my guess is the stock holding capacity is going to be no more than 125% of stock. meaning if car comes with 300ft/lbs you can mod till it makes 375. after that you will need more clutch holding capacity. which in fact is going to be hard to come by with the limit space available and the design of the clutch.

hopefully I am wrong and mitsubishi will surprise us with some strong clutches otherwise the only model worth modding will be old style 5 speeds.

Everything looks so simple and easily rebuildable. Also being so simple I'm sure one of those 10 million parts won't ever fail at the track.............

that is why they are offering standard manual transmission also.
