Clutch/Trans Problem...

Hey Guys,

Whenever I downshift from any gear to one lower, the instant the clutch catches (I am slowely letting it catch, not dumping it), i hear a weird noise sorta like a groan... I don't know how to explain the noise but obviously this can not be a good noice. Any insights on if this is a clutch or trans? I am pushing 497awhp on a Exedy Twin Disc Clutch with a stock drivetrain... I need to send my transfercase and Transmission to Sheppard soon... Is this the time?

TJ

I don't think it's any big problem. It's the release bearing that you're hearing. Although the stock throw out bearings are prone to this noise, I assume some aftermarket ones are as well. Nothing to worry about as long you're not grinding or slipping or anything.

Ok thank you. That is what a few buddies told me who have Evos and I decided to post it on here. They mentioned it could be the stock pressure plate as well. Thanks though

Could be TC groan. Did this just start to happen? Is it more of a vibration, if you leave a bit of pressure on the clutch does it go away? More of a rattle noise?

I just bought the car... It seems fairly new, though. It sounds like its coming from the engine bay, not the transfer case in the rear... although i may be very wrong.

I have also been told that noises like this may be from the stock pressure plate.... i to have the Excedy twin.. and although i am not making the HP you are.. at times my downshifting results in odd noises as well...

but should the problem be your T-Case.. i have my stock one for sale =)
