How do you remove the main cross member?

how many bolts and what bolts are required to remove the cross member?
It's the member that holds the steering rack.

Thanks in advance.

It is a bi*ch to take out. You will have to remove the rear mount as well as the transfer case and passenger drive axle. After you do all that you will have to unbolt the front sway bar and then the steering rack. Then once you do all that you can then go ahead and start removing the crossmember.

the only time I took this out is when I did my clutch job to make things easier in installing the tranny. Becuase with that crossmember in it is a PAIN IN THE A** to get that tranny in.

ok thanks.
That sounds like a whole lot of work.

What if I just want to loosen the cross member not completely remove it...what needs to be done?
