No matter what you do, or what you think, a competent insurance company WILL NOT cover damage to your car if you are hit from behind. It makes perfect sense, you modify your crash beam, something that is there for a reason, you compromise the integrity of your car. The only reason people are holding out hope is because they want their car to look good, and not worry about the consequences. I guess in this case you have to pay to play..literally

hmm...lol what if you say it broke off in the accident when they find out its missing?
I love the JDM look, but got rear ended a couple weeks ago. Thought about it long and hard, but I love my evo too much to risk no crash beam.
I'm also curious how well a modded/relocated crash beam is? see still looking for a way to get that damn JDM hehe.

I don't think mine is structurally any worse than stock.
All I do is shorten the mounts for it. I re-use the stock mounting bracket and weld it to the crash beam.
In stock form, the crash beam bracket is spot welded to the beam. I TIG weld it.
Everyone's got their own opinion. But I'm pretty sure if you had my modified crash beam in front of you then you'd probably agree with me.
There are a few other aftermarket beams around here that are very well made, but in my opinion won't function as a crash beam. They are more like glorified licence plate brackets. Thin sheet metal brackets, poor mounting locations and offer little support in a crash.

Sophie, How long does it take to weld it and do you have any pics of previous ones you've done? I'll be ordering a JDM rear this week and am debating modifying the stock beam...thanks
