Until last night my Evo has never even been driven in the rain. I was in Phoenix doing some errands when a terrible monsoon hit the Cave Creek/North Scottsdale area where I live. The cops blocked off just about every road going to the area. Traffic was backed up for miles.
Out of desperation, I weaved my way through the side roads, following some SUV's. Then I found out why they had the road blocks up. Raging flash floods consumed the whole area. There were vehicles washed off the road every where I looked. There was a truck, upside down in a wash where the road had washed away(I guess that's why they call it a wash) and a full size dumpster floated down slammed into him. I circled around trying to find safe passage.
The Evo struggled, pulling me through the raging torrents and past others who had become bogged down in the deep sand washed on to the road. Stuck SUV owners watched in amazement as the mad rally car blasted it's way past them as they waited for a tow truck.
I made it home safe and sound, and the Popeye's chicken I bought was still warm enough to share with my family.
My only question, is there some kind of special maintenance that should be done to my car after all that? It seemed fine, just a little wet, but you wouldn't believe all that it went through... Should I be concerned about the brakes or the diffs, bearings? Is this car really made to do this kind of stuff? It worked like a champ.

Your car is designed for just that.. hence rally car.. I would though ask you this.. did you give it alot of power when going through the water? wouldn't be a good thing if the water got in the intercooler and basically started getting sucked up.. I would give it a once over and perhaps take it to somewhere for a lift and get under the car and check anything you can. As for your diffs its a sealed unit unless you heard banging against the car when you were doing all your off roading fun.

If the diff's have any kind of venting it's possible that some water got ingested in there. In my Toyota 4x4 anytime that I would go in water I would change the diff fluid and it would always have some water in it.

Nice Evo FTW!...
I was out in Bullhead last week, same stuff, i love the monsoon season out there. It makes for fun drives. Just sucks for the flash flooding.
I would just visually check everything to make sure nothing was damaged. Water only really hurts the engine if it hits the alternator, or goes in the intake.

i did the same thing, the water came up to the headlights at one point cause there was a pothole in the freaking ground.. sucked in a little water, sputtered and then it was fine. Luckly it wasn't enough by the time it went to the engine that it was more of a steam trail than water in my engine. Hydrolock/Bent rod just avoided. I gotta tell you though, running the car in those conditions was awesome.
You're car should be fine. Just make sure nothing is stuck on your undercarriage and theres no rust spots there. Otherwise you should be fine. As for the intercooler, theres no holes there, and if you're running a stock intake with the box then unless your hood was underwater it won't suck in any. The stock snorkle is tucked away under the front of the hood behind one of the rubber strips.

Cool story, I also live in the valley.Unfortunately my Evo is a daily driver(for now)and I have been driving in a couple of these bad storms around here ,anyways sounds like an exhilerating time.Do you know of any evo owners meeting in the valley, I sure see evos quiet frequently around here.

I will go change the fluids in the diffs and power spray the crap out out of my brakes and stuff. couldn't be much worse than guys who live where it rains all the time... No water got sucked in, and I didn't bottom out or anything.
