Clutch issue.... maybe?

I think this is a clutch problem but for the sake of money lets hope not.

When I'm driving in a gear and go to accelerate my RPMS increase... and then drop down about 1,000 RPMS, like almost shifting an automatic transmion, but I'm still in the same gear even though I didn't shift. The car is an 03 with 40,000 miles... so it's about that time anyways, but I just wanted to see if it's the clutch or something more serious.

Thanks for the help.

I had the same issue. Outcome... clutch wasnt holding boost. Clutch was fried, was mostly my fault for doing high RPM launches. I wanted a better clutch anyways. G/L

sound like the clutch to me for sure......my '94 Talon was doing that when the clutch went out due to high RPM launches too.

If your clutch is slipping in lower gears its really on its way out. Get that thing changed with the quickness.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but it sounds like it could possibly, maybe, be your clutch.

40k is pretty good for the stocker. Also you should start slipping in higher gears first before lower gears..

not holding boost means that higher hp clutch is not holding and starts to spin. Meaning that the disk is just spinning and not grabbing on the flywheel. If it revs up in higher gear when you wot/ higher boost then the clutch is gone. Be careful with that because if you get it to hot than the spring in the pressure plate can break and cause some damage. Had this happen in a 2g talon.

ok i know this has been asked a million times, but any recomendations for an upgrade? Car is stock for the most part, and wont ever see more then 300 whp and thats with my modd plans I may never end up doing. Right now I was looking at the ACT Clutch kit they have for sale at lancershop.com

Just saw this:
EXEDY STG 1 + GRUPPE-S Flywheel
-Torque Capacity Increase 44%
-Clamp Load (lb): 2300
-Light pedal feel, crisp engagement
-Recommended for Stage 1-2 applications (Stock Turbo + cams)
$549 Shipped!!!

I would go for the ACT with street disk. I have been running it for 25,000 miles now at approx 340whp and no problems. I love it. But if you are looking for serious power you might want to go with the exedy twin or triple or a full carbon clutch like a tilton or something.

After re-reading your post. I would go with exactally what I have in my sig. You will get better accel from the lightened fly wheel and good life from the clutch.
