the factory smaller pipe is heat shilded so there is a reason. Yours is even closer the oilpan if its 3 inch...
Also if you wrap it it will be quieter. i had without heat shield and now it has a heatshield . you can hear less sound from front deffeniatly.Kind of more sound from the back...
but the exhaust will not be quieter. Little deeper maybe..

 

Don't wrap it, it's not as effective as Swain Coating, and it tends to trap moisture and salt...wrap ftl
