life with the evo
life with the evo
well it has been about 2 months and the evo is feeling great. now that i have my car and making all these payments paying for mods is a ***** damn i need a job. anyone know some of the cheaper mods i should first. advice guys 18 plus new car just dont mix lol
Even in stock form the car is great.
Save your money and hit a driver's school and start saving for new tires. Not sure where you live but with winter or short tread life you'll be feeding the car a set of new tires soon. I'd be sure you can afford the gas and maintenance (oil, tires...) before I'd worry about mods. I'd also be sure you can afford to void the warranty before I went and added any mods.
Beyond Mitsu factory and cosmetic stuff I'm only doing a K&N for now.

dont get a K&N or Ralliart drop in. Shiv verified that these filters change you MAS readings substantially. With JUST the Ralliart drop in, I was running 2 whole points lean on the Wideband o2 meter. Like 13.0 or something....
Dont get an air filter unless you have access to a dyno session.
The stock air filter is by far the best.

Yes. I have the ralliart drop in, when I first got on the dyno Shiv verified that my MAS reading were all over the place! I was running lean at various RPM points. The is ONLY caused from the air filter. He had to basically make me a custom map just for the ralliart drop in, along with the rest of my mods.
He explained to me that different air filters will cause the air to hit different parts of the MAS, like even the sides of the box. The ECU, in stock form, does not and can not account for these different MAS readings. Unless you want to be running lean, I suggest not using any air filter, unless you get tuned.

Has Shiv seen this same reading with the K&N filter. I know the Ralliart is foam and the K&N is oiled gauze mesh so they are different.
I assume you are saying the car is tuned only to the stock filter??

I have the ralli-art drop in and I can feel a difference in the way the car revs. I then put the stock filter back in after 2 weeks of having the ralli-art , and could tell the engine felt like it was being held back. But the other day I gunned it through 3rd gear, and while doing it the engine felt like it sputered. First time it has done this? VERY GOOD THING THOU,,, I was around 70 in a 40mph , and a cop was sitting in a church parking lot. I thought I was nailed. I got on the brakes and kept looking in the rearview,, o well he must have been on his cell phone or sleeping.
Other than that one sputter,,, I love my drop in ralli-art filter.
No problems, and I would recommend one.
