Bone stock motor. I have an inlinePRO 3mm headgasket, which will drop the compression down to around 9:1, but won't have that installed until I send my cylinder head to Laskey Racing for their Stage 3 job.

I live in Houston. It's 102 today. My car still needs a little time to warm up in the morning and the car is jittery until it warms up. He's not talking about outside temp he's talking about the temp of your engine & fluids.

Anyway, the stock rev limiter is 7606rpm, and I don't know what you mean by "fuel cutoff." That's what a rev limiter is - it cuts fuel. The USDM IXs have a built-in 5k stationary rev limiter that keeps you from revving higher from a standstill (a.k.a. launching). However, we raise that up when we get tuned to 6k usually. No, you won't be launching at 7500, but 5500-6000 will be about right.
But don't sidestep it. >_<

(I know you didn't say that)

Boost threshold is your answer. That is the point (rpm) that must be reached before the exhaust contains enough energy to spool up the turbo, and unfortunately that's one category in which our low compression engines just can't match your beast of a Honda.

I really shouldn´t have suggested that "sidestepping" technique. I saw it on a JDM video, and I´m pretty sure that my buddy, JRSimon, launches that way, but I personally would never try it on my own car. And so I really shouldn´t have suggested such a tactic to a Newbie.

The method that Warrtalon mentions is, IMO, the proper method to launch and he is the right guy to advise on the proper launching technique. I really don´t know squat about launching and I should have kept my mouth shut. I guess I´ll have to stop posting late at night. Sorry!

So, are you suggesting that I slip the clutch when launching?

Slip it fast!

I think you just need to give it some more rpms when taking off. I usually don't have trouble taking off from a stop without launching it. Although that could be due to the tbe letting things get going a little quicker, who knows. I've never driven a stock-exhaust evo. I'd say try to treat it like an underpowered front-wheel drive car for daily driving. That's what it seems like to me anyway. Of course when you get on it, then it's a different story.

Fast slip = good.

Sidestep = repairs.

If you have to choose which "side" to screw up on, do you want to replace your clutch, or your transfer case? Choose accordingly. =)

I think there is more to this than simple turbo lag.

My stock 06 RS does the same thing at 6000 miles.

I don't like to have to pedal the clutch to get a smooth pull out from a dead stop.

At less than 1500 rpm the engine seems to have nothing.

If I sit and gently roll on the throttle, I see my boost gage rise and then fall and then rise again. Really shouldn't do that, should rise with increased throttle until it reaches zero and then go to boost.

I wonder if the MIVEC is changing the timing of the cam as you come off idle.

The other possible causes would be EGR, Vacum leaks, O2 sensor, and fuel or iginition problems.

I have no codes or CEL popping up and it idles fine and runs good at highway speed and above.

I know the EGR hoses are attached but that is the main thing I have checked. A dealer is just going to say it is normal for the car so I doubt they would be any help.

Kinda hoping it gets better or worse soon, very hard to track something like this down.

Anbody who has seen this and found a cause, please chime in.

Thanks

Mitsuatb

That's crazy power on that bone-stock motor! Though i'd be very weary pushing it further, atleast w/stock pistons & rods anyway. Do yourself a favor and look into building that block before the head. They're very efficient in stock form, the blocks are what's weak at those power levels. They have a similar design in the H22 engines which don't actually have pressed in sleeves but instead use a MFR (micro-fiber reinforced) coating on the cylinders which the pistons slide on. Earlier on they were said to have no build potential because u couldn't simply bore them out like the B-series blocks that had steel liners, u had to resleeve the whole block $$. The Mahle piston company is the 1st to create a turbo piston that could work w/these blocks without resleeving (Mahle Gold Series Pistons). Research them if u haven't already

After a tune i gets better, the 05 is pig-pig rich while the 06 stock looks a little better but far from good. My car became a dream to drive in town after the tune
