Question Evo "sluggish" when first taking off?

My wife and I have had our Evo IX SE for about a week now and we really like it. We look forward to mod'n it and making more power. One thing we have noticed, which may be normal but to us seems a bit strange, is that the car seems a bit sluggish when first taking off in first gear. Once the turbo has spooled it takes off, but up until that point it simply feels like we are towing a boat or something.

Thoughts?

It's called turbo lag and a weak 2.0L 4-cyl. Without the turbo, the car is slow as *****.

No, this isn't my first turbo car. I have a turbo S2000 and taking off (and waiting for the turbo to spool) is much different. And no, I am not punching it; I am simply applying more throttle as the car starts moving forward and there isn't a whole lot of response.

it's really slow because the compression is low for boost.
once you put on turbo back exhaust and a boost controler it will make a huge diffrence....

Thanks for that explanation! My turbo S2000 is still at stock compression (11:1 or so) and it doesn't have any leg whatsoever.

We plan on going with the AMS 3" downpipe, AMS 3" test-pipe, AMS 3" turbo-back exhaust and a custom tune for starters.

I believe the stock compression of the Evo IX is much lower than 11.1

Doesn't help that our cars are fat and overweight too.

I dont know i sort of like the lag lol. Im not a huge fan of it but i like feeling that turbo kick me back, if i wanted a V8 i would have bought a gto lol. But put those mods on that you want and you'll be loving it. Good luck and welcome to the great world of AWDs
