Lemon buyback a bad idea?
Info here (organized by state):

I don't think it's a good idea. My '03 had some problems that I could have probably had it classified and returned. In the end, they fixed it though....after more than a month. In fact, it was the first car with these problems that ended up modifying the notorious transmission TSB.

I had a 04 VW GTI that was a lemon law buy back with 4,500 mikes on it. Drove the car for over a year and traded it in with 29,000 miles. The car was bought back by VW because the original owner claimed there was an issue with the rear hatch lock. In over a year of owning the car I never had an issue with the car or the lock.
The only issue with buying that car (if all is well with it) is when it comes time to sell it, a private party buyer may balk at that on the title and may have difficulty getting financing. In addition alot of new and used car dealers may not want to accept it on a trade in.
I bought my car for a great price, traded it in and got no less than a non lemon law car and it worked out for me. You might not be so lucky.
