Lookin to dump 3k on the evo

OK, i finnaly got some money to dump into the EVO again. I'd like to keep it under $3k.

So far i have the following:

Perrin 3" downpipe
Perrin 3" cat
Agency Power 3" cat back
Agency Power MBC
JDM MR BOV
AEM Intake
Wallbro 255 pump(not installed)
Ecutek ECU tuned to the installed mods.
boost guage/turbo timer

So far it dyno'd about 277hp tuned to 22psi.

I was thinking of HKS CAMS/Gears and just a new tune. Probably have the good folks at Dynocomp do it all.(install/retune) That would keep it well under 3k.

With the remaining money I was thinking of doing valves/spring/retainers as well.

Or should i get a AMS intercooler with the remaning money left over from the cams/gears. I can intsall that myself at least.(If i could do the headlights Im sure i could do this lol)

Just curious what some of you guys thought. Ive read through many forums, thats why I was thinking cams and gears would be the next thing to do for power. Im open to all opinions/suggestions.

id go for some sort of cams/gears and an ETS 3" IC. It fits without cutting anything.

otherwise it sounds good.

Valves/Springs/Retainers probably won't help, because if you're boosting 22psi on a stock turbo then you aren't making power past 7000RPM anyway...

I think most will agree that at this point you should probably do cams, head studs, head gasket, intercooler, piping, meth injection, and a re-tune. That should be $3000 right there and a good 100whp over what you're making now.

20GLT, cams, gears, injectors, install your fuel pump (10minute job) +TUNE

you should still have enough money left over for some race gas

Thanks for the everyones input, much appreciated and the PMs.

The gas here is really bad. Ill have to look into an alky kit, I just dont know much about them.

I'm going to do cams for sure, ive been told so many different things about them. Some say go 260-264 with stock turbo, other say you'll regret it and want to get 272s later. Ill be keeping the stock for a while, untill it goes bad or something really.

One main question I have is if i do cams/gears, should i then get intercooler and piping, or valves/spring/etc since where already in there. I would to do it all, but will be a while before i can get a good amount of money to do something to the evo again you know.

Plus 1 on the meth kit, I would not do the valves and springs.

I would do meth kit, HKS 272 Cams, ARP head studs, install your fuel pump and a set of Buddy club racing coilovers..... That would take you to your 3k but that would be a hell of a setup... If you have questions on the buddy clubs pm me, I love them, LOVE THEM :-)

Should net you some pretty big gains..... and a killer handeling car....

just my .02

Steve

Im bpu like you and these are some things i priced out around 3000 that will get me ready for a turbo upgrade:
cams, gears
clutch
trans rebuild
injectors
headgasket, head studs
timing belt
valves, springs, retainers, guides

I plan on buying a full turbo kit upgrade (fmic, etc...) so if i left some out.

With the stock turbo, I wouldn't go to far on the duration due to the high backpressure and possible resultant reversion. After cams, I would do some suspension work such as the trailing arm bushings, etc.

280/280 and an FPgreen. That should put you around 2 grand, just install it all yourself and tuning is up to you. Do it yourself or take it to someone.

A local shop here in phoenix called Mynes has helped me figure out a good setup. Its hard trying to upgrade the turbo and everything when most of the work I cant do myself. Laybor costs can take a big chunk out of your budget.

Ima do the Tomei 260 procam with Tomei spring/retainers.

Cosworth head studs

ETS 3" intercooler

255 fuel pump

Helix test pipe to replace perring cat

And a retune

Still pondering putting a little more into it and getting the cam gears, but ive been told not really needed.

Right now car does 270hp with current mods. Be interesting to see what it does after this... Will just be on 91oct, so hopefully i will be able to break the 300 barrier on the mustang dyno, not by much if i do im thinking.
