Evo 9 MR Wrong Choice?

Ya so i heard the MR is not the best trim because of the weak 6speed and whatever. So did I make a bad choice trading the evo 8 GSR for the Evo 9 MR SE? Also if money was no option would u still get the RS? This is my daily so i did want the power windows and stuff. Well the question is Evo 9 MR SE with shep 5speed swap or Evo 9 SE with rebuilt trannie by shep? If I did make the wrong choice WOW sucks for me cause i paid like 39k for my MR SE. This was off the showroom floor of coarse. Another question since i do got a MR SE was it a bad choice of mine to have them put the regular MR gun metal bbs rims on instead of the chrome se rims? Think it dropped the rarity of the vehicle any?

Thanks in advance

I think any tranny would get messed up if you abuse it. I haven't had any problems with mine. driving habits is all. Take care of it and you wont spend money fixing it.

If you're going for high HP then you probably should have just kept the VIII. The IX is a better choice if you're going to keep the mods relatively mild and keep it as a DD, imo. You need to state your goals and requirements or nobody can help.

Thanks for the quick replies. As for goals I want mainly bolt ons. I got the ams 3inch TBE and there Cone filter with MAF adapter. Plan on goin intake/exhaust manifold , cams , TUNE for sure. Sucks cause I live in such a small town, and awd dynos are like 10 hours away. Kinda iffy about the mail in flash. Kinda wanna go gt35r or 50trim dunno. As for the SE rims i should have kept them? I wanted the black on black or black on grey you know? Thanks again guys for the quick replys.

With the money you just used to buy the IX you could of paid for any turbo kit you wanted and more. MRs are best for those who plan on keeping their car mostly stock IMO.

But..... If I wanted a 600hp beast its not like I cant make it happen right? If i got the time/money. Been thinkin about 5 speed swap and rebuild by shep. But its not like i need a 5 speed swap now i jus got tbe and intake. What do you guys think about the SE BBS and the MR BBS I thought the blackish grey would look sick instead of chromes dunno??

Neither of the transmissions are that strong, although probably the 5speed is slightly more durable and has less parts to break. Its not like one is made of diamond and the other is made of plastic. It really depends on how you drive the car, and how much mod you are going to do.

If its going to be a daily driver as you've mentioned, race coupla guys at lights once inawhile, maybe track once every week or two, and keep the car under 500whp, you probably won't have any problems. Just make sure you get better clutch components if you plan on modding.

If you are a racer, or hardcore driving enthusiast, and/or abusive driver and your car goes through hard gear transitions often, along with hard launches, you won't be worrying whether its 5psd or 6spd, you'd get a custom tranny from reputable shops, or even a straight cut ones (dogbox)

Theres quite a bit of difference between 50 trim and GT35R so please do research before you get them. You might need a lot of internals replaced for the GT35R, whereas 50 trim you can just get the kit, buy some bolt-ons, tune, and go.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I know that 50trim has about the same spool as stock turbo so ive read. For some reason it seems like people underestimate the MR like its not capable of the same hp as the rs. As for the rims no1 really told me if I decreased the value of my MR SE by getting the regular MR BB's.

Hukster it was a 2003 Rally Red. Reason I traded was cause i went through the stock clutch 1ce then my dad replaced it even though factory didnt cover it but that was his car thats the reason I didnt pay for it. If it was mine I woulda went Exedy , ne way clutch was goin out again and Pops said if I made the payments we can trade it. Took it to the dealer clutch was slippin BAD and they didnt even test drive it. All they did was look at it and say 20k so we took it.
