The MR is the out of the box, most likely not gonna mod much, performance machine.
The RS is the, I'm ready for a badass car and its gonna get some serious work done on it machine.
The VIII/IX is the middle of the group.

If I was doing it all again I'd buy a IX SE though.
Yes budda says the SE is the best of all

I happen to like the rear wiper. I don't use it everyday, but when I do, it sure is handy... rainy days or early in the morning when the rear window is all fogged up, all it takes is one swipe, no need to run the rear window de-fogger.

And about the "fully optioned Evo," there aren't really many options. Other than the standard differences between an RS and the other models, it's not like those differences are trying to make the Evo pretty, like throwing in fake wood trim or anything like that. And hardly anyone gets the dealer-installed options listed in the brochure.

its not a mercedes or BMW..

you can count the differences on almost one hand..

you could get the RS and add anything you want to it and be under the price of the other ones

I didn't need a stereo, because I usually end up putting my owne speakers and unit in myself, so why pay extra for that, power windows, it has AC, I am not a stock car racer this is an everday driver for me and my family I roll with the windows up most the time anyways, sun roof nah who needs it, causes drag when open, so yeah mrxidx is right

"you could get the RS and add anything you want to it and be under the price of the other ones"

that is what I am doing and still happy that I got the RS, no spoiler either, I m really not a spoiler type of guy, with out it is ok with me, sleeper you know.

But hey if you what all the extra stuff then hook it up. Comfort items are nice. I just wanted to save some money and use it to put what I want into the car.

All in all the EVO is a damn fine car no matter which one you get.
I am still glad I got the RS though.

i just read all three pages, i recall someone saying people think MRs have more performance, thats just straight bull ****. i liked the RS when i purchased my evo but at that time they were hard to find. not to mention they didnt have electric blue so i was like let me just get a GSR, but all in all the 3 models are all good. i always felt the RS was made for the track while the GSR was meant to do more mods and the MR was the one you wanted to keep stock.

I have a WW 04 RS.. I love it.. It came with a/c, I added my own stereo and speakers (as you would swap anyway) And now I have jdm headlights with HID. I have every "option" I would want.. Power windows would be nice, but I can unroll the passenger side window from the drivers seat, and thats strapped up!!! haha I love my RS and hated sliding around in my buddies VIII with leather seats..my .02

It was during my long and exhausting research of the Evo that I discovered comments like WW_IX_RS's - saying that the RS felt better than the MR - that convinced me that the RS was the better driver's car.
You don't seem to understand. I don't need to drive the RS because its just a GSR minus 60 lbs. I've driven Evo's with more weight taken out. An RS and every other model besides the MR is barely even an Evo IX in America. They have Evo VIII suspension, tranny, etc. It doesn't take a genius to understand that the MR handles better. All Evo IX GSR's in Japan have everything from the VIII MR: like the bilsteins, aluminum roof, etc. All Evo GSR's since the Evolution VIII have had the 6-spd transmission. The only thing the RS has that I want is black door handles and mirrors.

Does it take a genius to realize the RS has an aluminum roof just like your MR?

I fail to see how the six speed even appears in this discussion about handling. If you want to bring it up, look how many track nuts have replaced their six speed trannies with 5 speeds...

Not only that, but many on these boards will agree that for track duty the Bilsteins are much too soft. They were added to help round the car out, not improve its on track abilities.

And why again is your MR more of a IX than the other cars in the US? Because you own it?

Seriously, take all three trim levels out to a track and run them, the driver is going to be the biggest difference.
