Wondering to buy S2000 or EVO IX MR?
Hello guys,
Fellow owner of the evo, i would like to ask you guys about evos vs. s2000. By looking at the specs, i see that an evo is superior but i would also take in consideration of other things such as looks warranty, service issues, reliability. and you know since honda is honda... and i heard many ****ty stuff about mitsubishi voiding warrants and stuff im really on the mist right now...

Only had the EVO for a month, broke down on me 2 times now...its in the shop.
Power: Evo wins hands down - the power is just so effortless!
Reliability: S2000 because its a honda...no pun intended
Handling: S2000 FEELS better (sharper steering, lighter), but EVO is really better (AWD)
Looks: S2000 looks better at more angles than the EVO does
In the spec sheet, the S2000 seems like it does not have such a power disadvantage, but in real life, the lack of torque is just annoying and you really need to be driving at high RPMS to make the power...maybe I am just getting old but I think the EVO with its peak torque at 4,000 RPM is just great....on the track, maybe the S2000 can catch up, but I think it has to really be set up right.
The 4-door to me now is just much more convenient and comfortable, I love the recaro seats in mine...its JDM and I am not that big, so it feels very supportive and comfortable. Modding the inside of the S2000 is too difficult...you have to sacrifice a lot to get harness and roll cage in.
The S2000 looks really hot, and if you want attention, it will surely give it to you! I love looking back at the car after I park it...I don't feel the same with the EVO...I only love the front of the evo, it looks very aggressive...

Wish I could track this damn EVO, its been in the shop this whole week...! First it was overheating, now is the oil sending unit sensor...Then it was the alignment, then it was the tuning...the tuning is not yet done too!
In a word, no. A stock S2000 can run the 1/4 mile in the low 14s @ 100 mph or so. A stock IX MR can run it in the low 13s @103 mph or so. Not too big of a difference stock, but get into basic mods and the S2000 can't touch the Evo. There isn't much you can do to the S2000 in terms of power without going forced induction, which is pretty expensive. A IX MR, on the other hand, can put down 350 awhp and run mid-11s @ 114 mph or so with nothing more than a good tune, turboback exhaust, intake, and boost controller (under $2k in parts).
The S2000 and the EVO are 2 very different cars...I don't even think that they should be compared to each other...
S2000 is a roadster, with N/A engine, FR configuration...compared to the EVO which is a sedan, 4WD, Turbo Engine built for rally...you can't get farther from each other when comparing these 2 cars.
In a way, this comparision shold be easy if you know what you are looking for in a car...I personally take my car to the track for fun, and the S2000 just isn't that much fun for a driver like me...the back end comes out a bit...and to really make it competitive, you would have to really go all out, as in strip the interior, and remove the top. The EVO seems to be a more competitive car, and can still drive home in comfort and that is the reason why i switched. Now I have a trunk to put all the crap I bring to the track!
if you can get away with minimal room, get the s2k. nothing beats NA honda engine for reliability, and s2k interior is 11x as good as our garbage evo interior. if u need 4 doors, the answer is obvious
Had an S2000, have an EVO now...

I had a 2005 black on black S2000. I had a truck at the time, so the S2000 wasn't going to be a daily driver. I enjoyed it for about 2 months, and then I got tired of the confined quarters of the car. Im only 5'10 and it was still tight. The motor is fun once you get it into Vtech, but under 5000 rpms it was lazy. Handling wise, it was great. But the Evo is better.
I bought an Evo IX MR about a week ago and Im smitten with it. Very fast, probably going to get me some tickets because the boost calls to me like Jessica Alba. Another thing about the Evo aside from 4 doors is that one ECU flash and your making over 100 horsepower gain. In the UK they sell Evos with 380hp from the dealer. The map in the US model is starved for fuel and timing to pass emissions.
The Evo IX is a rocketship. I'd take it over the S2000 any day. Way more power, and even better handling.

I'd have to disagree with you on that one. The S2000 is one of the best handling cars in stock form; it simply takes a little bit more time to get used to some of its "habits" and use them to your advantage.
too strange
first I love mitsu's....
but an s2k is still an incredible car. it is not pratical,, has no trunk space,, but it handles really well, and even a low boost FI setup makes more than enough power for that tiny tiny car....
if i were you, try and get a bunch of seat time in both... and decide for yourself which you like more....

In my opinion, after having driven my friends S2k, the S2k is more of a drivers car. It takes more skill to extract speed out of it. Any chump can drive an Evo fast. Also, there's a different feel between AWD and RWD. There's a purity to RWD that makes it more entertaining to drive.
I bet that if you substituted 'Elise/Exige' for S2k in this thread, you'd get the exact same replies.
The appeal of the Evo is that it's an all around good car; it's practical (4-doors and a big trunk), handles pretty damn well, easy to drive (AWD is very forgiving), easy to make power, and easy to put the power down (AWD).
I love the S2k for the FEEL (steering with the throttle, etc), certainly not for straight line acceleration. The Miata is also a ton of fun to drive. Both cars are more entertaining to me than the Evo. I like my Evo because I can use it everyday and still have a lot of fun.
It's funny, I was just talking to a guy at work that drove a friends Ferrari F430. While he says the car is absolutely amazing, he has more fun driving around in his Renault Clio because he can toss it around, etc. The limits of the F430 are so high that you can never reach them on the street. He says it's basically like driving in a video game, it's robotic and and with all the electronic aids, takes away from the fun.
In one handling/performance benchmark, the S2k owns the Evo in SCCA Solo II A-Stock.

Nope, I sure haven't. But I haven't been to any Evo meets either because of my schedule wife, kids, career, family... but that just illustrates my point that I'm about to make. You absolutely can't judge what the "majority" of car owners are like by who shows up to your Evo/S2K meets. So let me break it down for you. The reason you haven't seen any seniors and girls at the S2K meets is simply because these demographics don't hang out in parkinglots or go to dyno days. The majority of S2K owners are not the "tuner" or "car club" type and are simply wealthy upper and upper middle class people. Most S2K owners fit in these categories... First you have the "reliving my youth but can't afford a corvette" older men, then the "I want a sexy convertible" MILFS, and you also have the daddy's girl who wants a sexy sports car but her dad is more interested in safety and reliability. Going by "who shows up to a S2K meet" or who the members of a S2K forum are just gives you a skewed perspective cuz they will be mostly young men who are into tuning and who are thin and short enough to fit into those cars. Guys who go to S2K meets and post on forums are actually the minority of S2K owners. To get an accurate picture of the people who buy and own S2K's try working (like I used to) at a Honda dealership. You will see what kind of people bring in S2K's for maintenance and leave the lot with them. Mostly hot thin petite females and older men.

To the OP, you're asking people to choose between the EVO and the S2k on an EVO forum board... what do you think everybody is going to tell you to get? the Honda?
