are cam gears nessecary?
Im getting a AMS FMIC , hks 272 cams and new spark plugs with apr head studs. so is cam gears nessecasry? also do i need to get new valves and retaniers? thanks

Aren't you able to (at least on a IX) adjust the cam angles via ECU tuning? If this is the case, it wouldn't seem like you would need adjustable cam gears because you can adjust the angle via the ECU.
On the intake cam on the 9 yes but not the exhaust cam. The OP has an 8 though

Thanks for the clarification! So, cam gears are normally sold in a set. For a IX, you'd install both set of cam gears, but only adjust the exhaust cam gear by hand because you will adjust the intake cam by the ECU, correct?

if you think you know how to install then dont. take it somewhere and make sure it gets done properly. when they are adjusted properly then you will make some great power....
