Anyone used a windshield repair kit?
I've got 1 inch diameter chip in my windshield from a rock hit. I was thinking about using one of those windshield repair kits, but not sure how good the results are. Anyone had success with one, or am I better off just hiring a professional? thanks
Safelite does windshield repair.
My buddy has used the windshield repair on his Accord with great results. Granted his chip wasn't quite as large as yours but it seemed to work ok - just be sure to follow directions carefully.

insurance pays to repair rock chips for free and the insurance doesn't go up in price one bit. check you insurance company to make sure. I've done mines with liberty mutual 3 times already and it was hassle free and my insurance never changed one bit.
I think the rule-of-thumb
is that the damaged area should fit under a dime for best results.
Mine (the stone chip, that is....) was smaller than that , so I used a kit to fix it. It hasn't grown any, but it's not the greatest optically.
If you get a new windshield, make sure you get the correct one for the Evo (IIRC it's lighter weight than the regular Lancer version).

had my windshield replaced last friday by safelite - they tried to repair the chip first but ended up making the windshield crack. i had them order me a genuine evo windshield vs. the aftermarket evo windshield. cost me $250 which is my deductible.

I've used the "Fix-a-Windshield" stuff that is from the same company as "Fix-a-Flat" It comes in a yellow and black package. It works pretty good. Temporary fix for my girlfriend's windshield that has about 8 12-inch cracks spidering out from a chip. It says to only use it on 1 12-inch spot, or a small quarter sized chip, but since we were on a roadtrip we had no other choice. Still holding up through 100+ MPH speeds and a few carwashes after 7 months. We're too lazy to get it fixed now.
I've also used the perma-somthing brand that is in a blue package, that one sucks, used it on a nickel sized chip in my brother's windshield and it didn't even do anything.

Interested to hear if anyone had any issues with leaks or bad trim work when they had their windshield replaced. I have a chip too but am waiting for another one or two hits before replacing.
