EVO or RSX Type S? Why?

Alright well my friend has a 2003 Acura RSX Type S, with 83,000 miles on it. He bought it for $13,000. His intentions where to have a decent, not so expensive car to do some minor stuff to over time and keep it simple... and get into an apartment. Welllll that didn't happen. Since he bought it 2 months ago he is still living at home and has done the following...

-Cat-Back $550
-Used CAI $175
-Hawks pads $170
-ADR Wheels $660
-Springs $200 + 180 install
-Shocks are junk so he is getting coilovers $800-1000
-Short throw $100 *I think*

and the mods to follow are...

-Race header... $300
-Hondata KPro $950
-Tune... whatever it comes out to $200?

All in all a $13,000 car turned into a total investment of hmm... $17,000

Situation 1:

2003 Acura RSX Type S w/83,000 miles. Total investment $17000 when all is said and done... the car at this level makes 215whp, is still FWD... and we live in Maine...

Situation 2:

2003-04 EVO VIII $18,000...+ Flash $400 + TBE $500 = 275 ALL wheel hp, a car that handled as well as alot of exotics... usable power in rain... shine...snow *kinda but its fun*... Brembo brakes...

I am trying to tell him that such an investment into a FWD car when you live in Maine or you don't live in Maine... considering for only a couple grand more at best you can have something 50 times better. Is crazy not to... his excuse is "maintinence is more expensive"... "gas too"... pff, he puts super in the Type S and he gets 20-23... ooo he saved 3 mpg

Well, you are on an Evo forum. What do you think the answer is going to be?

The point is, for a little extra youre getting a TON extra... comparing the two...

Type S with all those mods

14 second car, if you can hook up... if it rains theres no power thats useable, sand same thing, snow NO way... It still handles like FWD coilovers or not...

or an EVO

those mods, low 13 second to high 12s... handling *speaks for itself* $2-3000 in BRAKES... USEABLE power.

Tires will cost more on the Evo, so will brakes. You can get away with conventional oil on a RSX. The RSX NEVER has to have a timing belt/chain service. RSX's DO get better mileage than an Evo, but a lot of it is also driving habits. The RSX only has one driveline fluid to change, versus THREE on the EVO (Diaqueen ain't cheap). No spark plug wires on RSX either. Should I continue?

Your friend can afford the PURCHASE on an Evo. He soon won't be able to afford the insurance, aftermarket parts, and maintenance.

How can he not like evos? If I could have sex with it, I would. I was thinking about the same thing but the rsx-s would be my dd. I trashed that idea a while ago.

if you do the maintenance yourself, it is much cheaper than going to a dealership.

But it all depends on what he wants....in the future. Evo is able to go much faster at a much cheaper rate than RSX.

The lack in modification or the NEED to in an EVO will more than offset maintinence. You act like it's a Ferrari. As is $17000 in a modded Type S, is SO much safer than a bolt on EVO for a couple grand more. There not GLASS and wheels... and an RSX Type S pushing 90k will indeed require some up keep. Acura or not **** wears out. It's not just about maint... its about what youre getting for what you are spending!

Why spend $8 bucks for a 12 pack of NATURAL ICE when you can buy a 12 pack of Bud light for $10 bucks!

since when when do sti's mod better and cheaper then evos, u have it backwards sti's are more expensive to mod then evos. as far as this dumb thread, dont buy a car that u will be buried under, u should know your budget, if u dont earn a good paycheck and have 5 grand in the bank as FU money and like to **** money away parting then dont get an evo.

its cheaper in every shape form and fashion, and theres nothing wrong with a fwd vehicle, owned a accord typeR,integra TypeR too,and the cars are fast, and they handle like crazy to,has lsd,so dont sleep on them, and the parts are cheap, and maint is too easy,
