Need advice for EVO 8

Hi folks,

I currently own a 997 GT3 and recently got an EVO 8. My last EVO was a "5" 8 years ago. So it's good to be back.

I just dropped my car at the tuner and got a base of 228BHP and 215 torque at the wheel(drop in air filter and full HKS system).

My goal is for a fatter mid range and torque. I just bought 264 HKS cams and cam gears. I'm also going to have a stage 2 port and polish with a 4 angle valve job for intake and 5 angle for exhaust. We agreed not to increase boost. The software the tuner is using is ecutech and says I can use the stock ECU for some mods.

Anyway, is it realistic to get 280 to 290 BHP and 240 to 250 torque (at the wheel)?

I don't want to increase boost as I prefer less lag and want reliability/driveability.

Am I doing the right things? Are my expectations right?

All the best fellas,

nothing wrong with raising boost... and i dont understand how you would spend a few grand to do all that yet not raise the boost... you wont get any gains unless you tune the car... if you own a 997 you are going to want more and more from this car...

My tuner says it boosts 1.3bar (stock). Gas is very poor here in the Phil's hence the decision not to boost. The better alternative he says is to do stage 2 porting. I'm freaked out on raising the boost after blowing a 993 TT once in 2000. Like I said, I want a fatter mid range and not neccasarily top end. I just like using the EVO as a daily driver more than the GT3 as it's too conspicous. Thanks anyway for your reply.

You can use adjustable cam gears to change the cam timing to maximize the midrange (at the expense of top end). And then just minimize as many restrictions as possible from the air going through the air filter until it exits the exhaust.

Thx Jenx. Manual boost controller so no change on the AFR? No detonation? On meth, is this readily available? Speedrace, I guess that's more or less what i want but would prefer not to sacrifice top end but if I could, add a bit.

Hi Ed,

Yes I live at A. Hills. Autoplus c/o Francisco said he could complete the job in 2 to 3 weeks. He also uses a flowbench to measure the volumetric efficiency. He says a stock head is about 93% efficient and that it should reach 115% after the job's done.

Cool , I am here at ormoc st. Francisco did a good job installing the 264's I/E and the tomei gears. before that the dyno was reading 202tq and 215whp after we put the cams, gears and fuel pump it went up to 230tq and 234whp not much, but reasonable. I am waiting on a spare head that Francisco can work on as well-reckons the stage 2 would be the best option for regular driveability. The %'s you mention are quite right and he really knows his biz having seen some of the finished products that come out of Autoplus.

cheers.
