Alignment
I've been reading that many EVOs have been sold that were off factory alignment specs, and so when I picked up my EVO, I mentioned that and asked if the dealer could check the alignment and fix it if need be. But what the sales guy told me was that the vehicle was "thoroughly" checked and brought up to factory specs and what not...my question is, then how could we have all these EVOs off alignment right off the lot???
hmm...I should probably have it checked, but if Mitsubishi won't even look at it, I don't want to have to pay for something that SHOULD'VE been done by Mistubishi/covered by warranty?

If the dealer went through the trouble of "thoroughly" checking the car, I would expect him to have documentation to that effect, including e.g. a checklist of the items inspected, a printed alignment report, etc.
Just drive it and see if it pulls to one side. Mine's off and I'm taking it in tomorrow. I went to the dealership today to get some oil filters and the service guy tried to brush me off when I mentioned an alignment. He was like "the car has tremendous torque steer, blah bah," but I made sure I got an appointment tomorrow.
Mine pulled to the right during the test drive, and the salesguy wrote a "WE OWE YOU" preprinted form for "Alignment Check". Sure enough, I brought it in a week later with over 2K of miles and was asked about the roads I was driving, since Maine roads suck and aren't level, I said I've driven many vehicles with high performance tires and that the alignment is off. Sure enough, they checked it and it was out of factory settings, it drives much better now. I've had 5 new cars in the past 3 years and every single one of them usually included an alignment under warranty within the first 12K miles, I would check with a different dealer if yours won't cover at least a check under warranty.
I have a flat tire right now...
waiting for a new one to arrive from tirerack...but from the limited amount of driving I have in the EVO, it doesn't seems to pull to one side. And while we're on the topic, does anybody know any good Misubishi dealers in the socal area???

I would tell the dealer "it seems to pull to the right " and have them check it. If they find the alignment is out of spec they should fix it for free since it's basically a new car. If it's on spec then you'll probably have to pay them for checking but at least you'll have piece of mind.

Puente Hills Mitsu. has a great service dept. But, NOT the Sales Dept. The bastards tried to rob me!
Avoid Tustin Mitsu. like the plague.
I use Accurate Alignment in Orange.

My service dept told me that even checking the alignment is covered under one of the warrranties (?? months and 6000 miles rings a bell). I'm having them service the tranny at 5k, so I'll have them check the alignment then as well, before it costs me.
the alignment is covered under warranty til 12000 miles.
i had to get my evo aligned once and have the tires balanced also because the steering wheel had a slight shake on the highway.
my toe was way off in the back.
just take it in and get it checked out if the car vibrates or pull left/right.
i am also having the tranny checked cause it makes a bad grinding noise when shifting gears. especially on 2nd and 3rd.

weightless - That's actually a very good idea! I don't know why I didn't think of something like that earlier... a little bending the rules wouldn't hurt
silver bullet - I won't have to deal with the sales department anymore! I'm only looking for service depaprtments now
maybe I'll check out Puente Hills
992gnt - Hmm...I'll have to talk to the service manager about the alignment being covered in the warranty. I really hope you're right though.
GhostF@ce - That's probably true of a whole lotta sales people...like the one who told me Mitsu wasn't going to make any white EVOs
it sure looks like a white EVO that's in my garage there buddy...

Mine didn't vibrate or pull noticably. But mine was way off. I had +.4 camber right front and -1.6 left front. This was after they replaced my tranny at 700miles. I assume they dropped the subframe to do the swap and never re aligned the car. I didn't know it was that bad till I went in for my first alignment at a local speed shop.
I made mitsu fix it under warranty and told them they should have checked it after the tranny swap.

Stohlman in VA was great. I too have read about the alignment problem. So when I went to buy my BBY EVO, I told the salesman about what I've read on the evolution.net and if they would check out the alignment. I want to see an alignment sheet as proof. My salesman talked to the manager and when they were preping the vehicle they put the EVO on an alignment machine. Sure enough the rear alignment was way off. They corrected it and gave me the printout of the old and new alignment number. I would suggest anyone buy an EVO not to take delivery without the dealer doing an alingment check. The manager thanked me for bringing this to their attention and stated that they were surprised that Mit. hadn't put out a notice on this. Hope this helps
Ok, I just went to the dealer yesterday, and they made up every excuse in the book why my car pulls to the right, and crap like that. After I test drove one of the serviceman, he said to bring it in at 4500 miles and then they'll do an alignment. They also said my decceleration noise was normal. This dealer sucks *** -- Gillman Mitsubishi, north Houston. Don't ever buy a car there either.
Anyone in Houston know of a better dealer with good service?

Go to a tird party shop and hve them check the alignment. If it is out of spec, call mmusa. Tell them you brought this to the dealers attention and they blew you off before you had confirmation that the alignment was off. The find another dealer in your area and take the car in along with the sheet and ask them to do it under warranty.
I was not planning on having this covered by warranty in the first place which is why I went to a third party first, but they "were not able" to get the alignment within spec... thats when I called the dealer and told them what was going on. They got it fixed but it took them about three weeks to get the specs and get there machine programed for the evo.
