Angry So i just got read ended >:(

I just dropped my gf off at her house and i was driving home along a popular strip (not by choice) and i was at a red light and this ***** on her cell phone wasnt paying attention and rear ended me going a little over 5mph

I saw that she was going to hit me but wasn't able to react quick enough to make a quick escape.. i had it in second gear at the light and luckily got some forward momentum otherwise it probably would have been a lot worse.. her response was, "that will buff right out" I got all her information, there appears to be no cracks on the bumper, but I'm afraid it might have stretched the support brackets or pushed the bumper down.. what should i check for tomorrow morning? i don't know if the bumper is sitting completely flush with the tail lights now.. on a good note, if it is messed up maybe its time for a jdm bumper

ill post pics tomorrow

thanks for any insight/advice/input

same thing happened to me, it sucks huh? lol
i got the insurance info but decided to let it go.
i have little (maybe they call them spider) cracks that are somewhat unnoticeable unless your looking for them that formed, because even though the bumper didn't crack or break there was still some damage done.
do what you think is right man, if you want because i bet you have money, just treat yourself to a nice jdm bumper to make you feel better.
talking on the cell phone (tisk tisk) she should have to pay a fine even if no damage was done.

yea, just worried if any damage was done to the support structure in the back.. if you know what i mean? i'm no body expert at all.. but i would figure it would warp a bit..

i was cool until she started being a ***** and made the buff right out comment, she thought her g6 was a better car then the evo.

Have the insurance pay for a JDM rear bumper or make them fix it.

No need to call the cops on this one. Call her insurance on monday. Report a claim. They will come out, take a picture, then they will pay for the bumper to come off, for it to be inspected, and for the bumper to be refurbished. They will issue you a check for $300-$400 for this to be done.

I had this same thing happen to me 2 months ago. I cashed the check and put it in the bank for my JDM rear bumper.

Report this to your insurance. Do not file a claim with them, just call them to let them know. This way if her insurance wants to pull any BS, you have your story on record before the BS occurs.

yea get a jdm rear bumper so when this happens again no insurance company will cover the damage and it will most likely cause a lot more damage to the car....

no crash beams FTW!

My neck, my back, my neck and my back. Get the police, file a lawsuit, get an evo.

You're talking out of your ***. Modify your stock crash beam to work with the JDM bumper and you're golden.

So many people above say what EvoJoe said, but it's all based on "what I heard" or "the friend of my friend did this and" just like most all internet posts.

Here's what I posted in another post about damage with the JDM rear.

Even if insurance wouldn't cover it. and that's a big "IF". I want the crash beam in there for the protection aspect of it. The crash beam is designed to take an impact in the center of the rear, and spread it to the two side box sections of the unibody. Sure, in a 40+ MPH crash, these box sections would be totaled as well, but I don't want the corner of a truck, hitting the rear of my car in a diagonal, and tearing through the flimsy sheet metal in the center of the rear of my car. I want that bar there to spread the load to the stronger parts of the car. that are designed to take the load.

Also, if done right, this will look factory enough within the carnage of a wrecked car, that the adjuster would never notice... hell, I've never seen an insurance adjuster do anything but glance at the damage and take a quick snapshot.

Besides... In a rear-end collision, the person at fault (typically the car in the rear), has a responsibility to bring the claimant's car back to the status it was prior to the accident. That means if they have a USDM bumper to replace it with a USDM bumper. if it has a JDM bumper, with a JDM bumper. If there was cool-whip on the back... they replace it with cool whip.

The crash beam is not for insurance damage mitigation purposes... it's to meet federally mandated light impact damage criteria for manufacturers.

Now, if you backed into a pole at 5MPH with a JDM bumper with no support, and did damage to your trunk, trunk floorpan, rear pannel... then your insurance may give you crap and not cover the damage because your actions directly led to excessive damages, and you were solely responsible.

Quick story on insurance repairs:

I had a RMM front bumper on my 94 Supra with a Carbon Fiber hood. I was in an accident that did nearly 15K in damage to the car. I was at fault. Took it to my body shop which was a State Farm Service First body shop... meaning that they are authorized to do estimates and repairs without State Farm's involvement. And after 6 weeks, I got my Supra back... with a RMM front bumper, and a Carbon Fiber hood.
