Questions after 15 months of storage
Questions after 15 months of storage
hey guys, i'm new to the forums and also new to the evo. i currently have my evo ix in storage outside right now in anchorage alaska... don't ask, i was pretty stupid. it's got 3k miles on it. i don't even have a car cover on
. all the places i called for inside storage were full... i shoulda searched earlier i guess..
but anyway, it's been in storage for about 13 months already and i'm going to be picking it back up in about 2 months. it's been through a winter and a half outside in alaska. all i did to it was unplug the battery and had the tank at 1/4 full (because the storage wouldn't take it if it's more than 1/4 for some reason). i've been worrying about my car since like the beginning. i'm just scared to come back to it all jacked up and stuff. is there anything i should be expecting when i come back? what kinda problems will there be after leaving it outside for 15 months?
flaming is welcomed! i very well deserve it..

Well you should expect your tires to be flat and flat spotted on the bottem where they have been sitting and will need to be replaced. Your gas will be bad and you will have to drain the tank and flush the fuel lines. Your battery will still be dead and useless after being in th cold for that long. Who knows what animals, spiders and what not have made their home in your car or your engine bay. Your brake pads are more than likley froze to the now rusted rotors. Not sure how your paint will look on the car or the plastic trim peices on the outside of the car but i am sure sitting outside for 15 months in sub zero temps is like putting 15 years normal wear on it. Well all that being said you will need to bring a flat bed with you to pick it up.
When you pick it up count on bad gas and useless battery bring fresh with you. I don't think I would bother flushing the fuel lines just drain and replace what's in the tank, pretty sure evos have a drain plug in the tank.
just flatbed it and bring it home first....then replace all fluid, drain and change fuel, change battery, spark plugs(maybe?), replace brake pads, brake fluid, i would bleed the clutch and brakes to be safe, and some other stuff too that i'm forgetting, and after you change all that, and turn it on, let it idle for a long time...
Thread Jack! Speaking of flat-spotted tires...How long does a car have to sit before this begins to happen? My evo usually sees about 1-2 months in the garage before I get the time to drive it. Last time I drove the car, I noticed that car felt like it was going over a bunch of small bumps. But after a few miles, the problem corrected itself.

My Evo sat for nine months. Plugs were good, full was shi!!y, but two flushes ran the nasty out. Oil change, and oil and fuel filter changes. Battery was dead, no flat spots on tires. Runs like a top. Good luck
try and claim it under insurance, your car is jacked. Well, that's my opinion anyway and just that, but I don't see a car lasting too long in sub zero condiotions for 15 months, not moving, just sitting there. I've heard of peoples engine blocks freezing over there in Alaska as well and I'm not sure if repeatedly having your engine freeze is a good thing or not.
