Norris Evo Time Attack crashes (In car Vid)
...of the three cars that took that line, the first few did well by early apexing. this driver followed their line, but their line was blocked by the time he got there. If he had late apexed the corner he could have avoided the accident and maybe picked up a position.
Of course this is all monday TV racing... so it's worthless to say what he should have done... woulda coulda shoulda.

1) The speed Simon was carrying into The Esses to keep up with the other Evo's was borderline reckless...

2) After cutting the chicane at high speed he quite clearly gained track position over Gary Prebble and must have known this considering he had been trying for ages to get past him.
3) He then had several straights, one corner and a chicane to conceed his illegally gained track position, he did not

Simon Says....
Thanks for all the kind comments from everyone, feeling Ok if a little sore today!
Everyone has their own opinions on a situation based on experience and vision of the incident, whether it be from inside the car or on video afterwards.
Some facts for you though;
1) I think the accident was my fault, but at the time could not be avoided.
2) The first thing I did was ask the other girl how she was, apologised and shook her hand in the medics room.
3) I was not driving beyond my talent or ability. This was a bad racing incident for which I feel responsible.
4) Gary stopped me from overtaking him at the Esses one lap earlier when we touched side by side, I had the inside line and he had to take the grass. At this time I had gained a position by
virtue of me being in front into the corner on the inside. On the following lap I tried to out brake him on the outside instead and locked up meant me having to take to the grass. I ended up in front and did not know that I should yield this gained place, I held my hand up to appologise but did not know what was the correct etiquette. I have spoken with Gary about this and appologised.
5) I already stated to one of Chirssy's friends that if Castle Combe declare the accident my fault I would pay her £1000 towards her repair bill.
6) Something needs to be done about the differing speeds in this championship, no one has more of a right to be in it than another but the speed differential is dangerous.
Finally I will be back with another car next year and intend to silence all the people who say I can't drive and do my talking on the race track.
Cheers all and sorry to Chrissy!
Simon

This is a point we have considered, and why in our particular format of Time Attack, we dont allow all the cars to run together on the track at the same time:
"6) Something needs to be done about the differing speeds in this championship, no one has more of a right to be in it than another but the speed differential is dangerous."
I've heard of horror stories and near misses from other time trial events when mixing fully built Unlimited Class cars with slower Modified/Limited class cars. Closing speeds can be absolutely insane.
I'm glad Simon is recovering from this horrible wreck.

To point 6; just a thought, I am full of opinions.
Just like skiing or snowboarding, the person uphill is responsible for avoiding the people downhill. On the track, recognizing that you are closing on a slow car, and compensating (disabled vehicle, lapped traffic, spun car, even an early braker, etc.) is or should be the approaching drivers responsibility.
Not pointing fingers or saying Simon can't drive, not at all. Saying perhaps there was a lil-bit-o "red mist" going on and avoidable contact was made there was an insane result. Still, glad the drivers are ok.

talentsearch, please check your link, it does not work. I'd like to see it.
I personally did not nor am I saying Simon cannot drive, he could be the best driver in the world, from looking at the video the wreck was, as he admitted, his fault.
You guys mean to tell me that all those cars on the track at one time was an actual "Time Attack" session? I mean when you go to a Time Attack here in the states there are slow and fast cars out on the track at the same time but it is practice. In the actual timed portion to see who wins there are only TWO cars on the track at one time and they are seperated by about 1/2 a lap to keep any contact from taking place. Was the session this wreck was in a practice session or an actual timed portion for the win?
