Amsoil offers an additive, but they say you don't need it with Amsoil products. It's for use with other brands.

With the difference I noticed using Amsoil in the engine, I am anxious to try it out in the gears as well.

Most people who'll tell ya only OEM in the t-case have probaly never used anything else.. Amsoil Severe Duty is specifically made for hypoidal gears such as our t-cases.. I used it without a hitch in my 05, and 06

ok guys, i ordered the mtg 75w-90 for the tranny-3qts and svg(severe gear)75w-90 for the rear diff/transfercase-3qts, amsoil doesnt recommend addind any additives for this fluid either, the mtg is a gl-4 and the svg is a gl-5, i will post a write up of the change when i get around to doing so, also along w/ the full syn 10w-30 motor oil and eo-46 amsoil filter which i think is their new nano filters

Transmission problems - Amsoil?

I am a brainwashed Amsoil user and use it for engine oil changes in both of my vehicles. I put the Amsoil 75-90 in the transaxle of my '03 Evo soon after purchase (new). The shifting action was much improved.

After a few track days, the transmission started grinding on the 3-4 shift at high rpm. I took it to the dealer for warranty attention, but since there was no way to demonstrate a high rpm 3-4 shift on the street (oh yes, officer, I was demonstrating a transmission problem to the dealer that only occurs at 80-90mph when I shift into 4th), they blew off the complaint.

My opinion was/is that the Amsoil gear lubricant is/was too slick to provide enough friction for the synchros to match speeds between the gears. I went back to the factory lube and the problem was reduced but not gone. However, when I had the 3-4 synchro replaced, the mechanic told me that the '03s had a weak 3-4 synchro and replaced it with an updated part.

So, go figure...

Steve

Using the gear lube in the t-case and the rear diff atm the tranny fluid right now is gm synchromesh II but i'll probably switch that to amsoil with the next few rounds of oil changes.

My friend's '03 3-4 syncro was gone while he was on stock fluid. It's the syncro/hard shifting problem.

I suggest getting a pump for gear fluid from Amsoil for everybody who wants to put in in their tcase and rear differential. Makes it a lot easier.
