Shifting

Hey all,

The shifting of gears in my have been odd lately. Was wondering if anyone of you could give someinsight on this situation. When I shift from 1st to 2nd, it seems hard to shift into and doesn't feel that smooth. I usually notice this when I start out the car. Also, when stop a light, I'll pop it into Neutral and shift back to 1st once it's green. However, sometimes it doesn't go into first smoothly, feels like its getting stuck. I really don't know much about the mechanic aspect of it, so any answers would be great. Thanks.

It's probably just your transmission fluid not warmed up. Once it warms up it becomes less viscous, thus easier to shift.

I was thinking that or my shift fork but I only recently felt that shifting to be difficult. I bought it about 11 months ago and never really experienced this until just a few weeks ago.

Yeah I noticed it too and chalked it up to the fluid being cold. I've been noticing some odd things lately too, like when I shift into 5th, sometimes I get locked out. It's weird, and its all probably my fault.

Its probably your fluid. I believe mitsu. recommends 30k for your 1st trans flush, but id do it at 15k depending on your driving habits. Also change your t.case fluid every 10-15k regardless. That stuff gets worn out quick.

I just got mine T-Case fluid change for the front and back like 3 weeks ago. I know people tell me during winter the shifting needs time to warm up to become smooth, but I just recently started having this issue of the non-smooth shifting and the lock out of gears. Dunno whats up.

Yes, your car will be very stubborn to shift into when you start it up. It's like this for a lot of people, its normal. I usually start my car up, and let it sit there while I walk around and clean it or something for 5 minutes. Until the temp. gauge is at half. Then it shifts like butter. It just needs to be warmed up.

Could be the same issue Im having, first, third and fifth are all tough to get into. Im pretty sure my shift linkage is either bent or kinked. This is the second time its happened to me, the first time it was basically the same symptoms. It got worse and worse and finally one day driving/shifting normally it broke completely and my stick was just flopping around as if nothing was connected to it. Mitsu replaced my gear shift linkage and all was ok. This second time I just brought it in and they denied my repair because I had aftermarket bushings :\ I bought them to try prevent this from happening again.

Same exact thing on my car, except its reverse (when its cold) and sometimes
2nd gear just gets locked out.... But when it warms up its all good. I usually do let my car warm up (needle half way) before i take off.
