C.A.R.B. numbers are particular to the manufacturers and the legal parts they supply us with. The number is entered into the testing machine when the check is done and has to match a visual inspection as well as test parameters for the type of car and part added. If it was that easy we would have done it a long time ago.

I really doubt it son, unless your ready to have your *** kicked by a CHP, your face stuffed in the pavement and your car towed to an impound. I really don’t think your ready to go three rounds with these guys along side the road.

Although I don't know the laws and how to handle it appropriately, I would be shocked to hear that a judge would say that a cop can simply walk up to car by looks and say "I think your car is modded, I need to examine your engine bay".
Man you are from Cali and never been pulled over on a modified car. Either you have and the cop didnt give a rats a$$ or you are lucky - I want some!

A buddy of mine that just got out of the marine corps is a cop now in L.A.

I hear it from the horses mouth bro, some cops will harras you about anything. From loose body parts on you busted vehicle to that huge 3 ft ricer wing. If the cop pulls you over and asks to see your engine he already knows.

Simple- Let say two 240SX's one modified- exhaust, kit, agressive wheels...etc.... and a bone stock one both get pulled over for speeding.
Ok still with me, the bone stock one will most likely get a ticket or a warning.

The modified one, he will be asked to pop his hood.

So when I say they can make you pop your hood just because the cop feels your car is illegaly moded he can search. Ask a Lawyer and get back to us on this , guaranteed they will tell you the same.

Hell just for having a AIR BREATHER they will harass you.

And like i said before ,this cop doesnt know the diffrence between supercharger and turbocharger but he does know "BLING" .

"BLING"-
shiny parts- IC pipes ,manifolds, polished intakes manifold will make them go OOOOOOOOOOHHHH
gauges,shift lights, roll cages, tint
air breathers
round intakes
headers
NO-CAT!
FREAKING COLORED VACUUM HOSES WTF!!!!
and the ubber obvious exhaust

Yup thats what everyone is starting to do. A buddy of mines got pulled over in his r33 skyline , simply because he got everything powdercoated black there was nothing for the cop to put on him.

+1237686 For black on engine bays

I pulled that stunt with the cops (who are feds) on the Hoover Dam. They wanted to search our rental vehicle because they didnt see the new tags taped to the front window. I was very courteous, yes sir, license. Yes sir..we are returning home from a road trip for the company. They ran our license (clean records both of us) they ran the car (clean as it was a rental) They then proceeded to remove us from the vehicle. They took my medicine (percocet) and asked me why I needed it (which I kindly explained) Then they took my knife and sat my partner and I on the curb like criminals. They then asked to search the vehicle. At this point I refused. No probable cause. They got pissed. I told them I know my rights, I have been more than cooperative and now you are harrassing me. You shouldve seen the look on their faces when I told them the reason that I didnt want them to search it was because there was 100k in sensitive aircraft test equipment in the back and I didnt want them to screw it up. In the end they told me to shut the F up. All because I know my rights. Oh...and my partner consented to the search. I wouldve made them get a warrant. Cali cops would get a lawsuit from me.

Of course this all moot as I would never drive my Evo into that state (and yes, I was born in LGB and lived in Gardena for on and off for 10 years) I hate Cali and avoid that state like the plague.

Ouch, that sucks... I can't believe they are that strict. I could understand a cat delete, and maybe even an exhaust, but an intake? wow....

I don't think you understand anything about your rights and driving a car in California althemean or anywhere else for that matter, you just think you do. Lawsuit, thats a laugh, shows how little you really know about terms of engagement with a police officer.

To tell you the truth, I don't think you could carry their lunch on your best day anyway.

you tryin to get me spooled up RT Lets just say I understand my rights as a free man as laid forth in the Constituiton by our founding fathers. I understand that the misinterpretation of these rights over time is what brings us to our current situtation today.

You're right. I would never carry a cops lunch on my best day because I hate the police. To me...It sounds like you are the one who is afraid to exercise your rights and stand up for your freedoms. I am not afraid to go to jail or die for what I believe in.

By choosing to allow an illegal search of property it only reinforces the misplaced authority that the police have. By refusing to state you know your rights is nothing more than giving them up without a fight and allowing the violation to occur.

This is OT so I will say no more.

^^^its only a matter of years until the whole country gets all smog-crazy and every state will have smog and ref stations! Mark my words its a easy way for the goverment to get money off the hard working american tax payer!

Read SEMA SAN and you will see "MR HANCOCK" state rep of some sort trying to pin new laws for vehicle modifications and noise levels.

Its getting so bad that dragstrips are been closed for noise ordanace! You would think that a track will close down due to financial reasons right , nooooo most of them are due to locals and county reps that think its a horrid noise maker.

What about them Harleys, hell from factory they are loud. Louder than 83db at cruising. Yet wheres the laws for that.
