HIDs aimed too low?

My headlights look like they're aimed way too low, especially compared to my previous car. The manual leveling control is on the highest setting...is there an adjuster under the hood on the headlights themselves?

thanks!

yup, i notice the same thing! I can't stand it, i was going to take it to the dealership to see if there is anything that can be done. It sucks at night, and with it at the highest setting, it makes you wonder why there are evn lower settings. On the lowest setting, the light is litteraly about 2 feet in front of the car, and that's about it. anyone?

Yes, from the factory they are aimed too low. The manual headlight adjustment knob is for load compensation. If you fill the trunk with luggage and have four people in the car, the headlights will be pointing at the sky. It is easy to adjust them how you want them though...

I'm glad this thread was brought up. I too have noticed the lights are just too damn low from the factory and after this thread reminder I'm going to adjust them tonight. For those who need a little guidance as to how to aim the headlights I will attach an illustration showing how they should be alligned and not glaring in anyones eyes.

You wonder why there is a lower setting? It is a brilliant design. Because this car is made to do turns and canyon runs. Imagine yourself in a canyon run with sharp twisties. With your headlight shooting far is pointless because every turn has a mountain in front anyway. So by the design, it lets turn your headlight to aim lower CONCENTRATING or FOCUSING on whats right in front of you.

I dunno if that explaination will make you see the point but I hope it did.

I tried to turn the adjuster wheel with a flat head, thats a no go. I think there is a 10mm nut on the back side that you may be able to get at, but I'm not sure if thats to adjust or just to remove the wheel. It looks like it is designed for a torx bit, but it has to be a long bit, like at least an inch long to clear the housing around the wheel.

Those tech info diagrams suck ars in this case, they don't even tell you what direction to turn the adjuster. Plus there is a gear drive on those same wheels, I though that was controled by the dash dial, but I did not see the gear moving when adjusting the dial from 0 to the highest number, but I may have had the harness unplugged on the one I was looking at.

Actually, the worst thing you can do, especially if driving hard, is focus on whats right in front of you in a turn, or going straight for that matter. You should be looking through the corner, which requires the lights to not be pointing down. Imagine you go into a decreasing radius turn, and are focusing right in front of you. Can you say early apex?

There is another duplicate of this thread floating out there.
You can use a T25 Torx bit somewhat, in the hole onthe opposite side of the gear. The gear is basically 2 sided. Any small flat screwdriver can work too.
Best thing to do is line up to a wall or garage door and just mark where you are and then adjust them to where you want them. You are supposed to do it at 25 feet.

Oh and the adjuster in the car was designed for whwen you had a load in the car, you could lower the light back down.

Do you need to unplug the electrical connectors before adjusting ?? Thanx for the info on the torx bit Timz... that is what I was looking for... I attempted to use a flathead on the "adjuster" side (the side closest to the front of the car) and could nto manage more that turning the gear a tooth at a time. The torx bit's I have are to shallow to fit in the cutout. I'll pick up a t-handle t25 and give ti a shot.

It works, just not perfect. I tried a T27 but it was 3/8 drive so it didn't fit in there. T27 may actually work better.
