Salvage Title??
Salvage Title??
im looking at buying a 2006 EVO IX. only downside is it has a salvage title. i havent seen the car in person yet, but from what the guy said it is a theft recovery. never been wrecked. what are the negatives to buying a salvaged title car and is there anything i should look at? thanks in advance
The biggest negative is the resell value is ****. Don't overpay because it will be money lost. Rule of thumb is it's worth half of what the same car with a clean title would be worth.
don't buy it unless u plan to never get rid of it...and check it out really really good and make sure it's not damaged in any way......my bro bought a 300zx with a salvage title way back and it was awesome...lasted nearly 300,000 miles ....the main thing is don't pay too much for it...cuz it's not worth as much as a clean title
well a salvage title sometimes isnt a big deal. it could be stolen seats broken windows ect... only bad thing about salvage is the value of the car just dont over pay i dont think any salvage evo would be worth over 18k even if its a 06 ix mr with low miles just my 2 cents.
salvage title isnt all that bad.. my friend buys nothing but salvage titled cars and fixes them up nice! if its not wrecked and just broken into then it might be alright.. yeah dont pay alot.. i was going to buy a salvage evo but couldn't get a loan from the bank so i got a clean titled!

Another problem is that you have to get full coverage as far as insurance goes but if the car gets totaled or stolen than your insurance will only pay a fraction of what your car would be worth if it were a clear title.I would steer clear of a salvage title as if it were the plague.
Here's the thing...My car was in an unfortunate accident from a driver who made an error. I now have a salvage title because of the accident, although it was mostly cosmetic. My engine was pulled and my frame was tested. I have no ill effects as a result, but it is what it is. There could be good salvage title cars (like mine) but that's the risk you take. I'm trying to sell mine now and running into this issue. I can't say I blame anyone because I would be cautious if I was on the other side of the sale. Just make sure you trust who you're buying from and it should be okay. This is not to say that a clean title isn't the way to go.
You can sometimes find states that have regulations that allow salvage titled cars to be changed to "normal" titles after inspection, etc. But, it seems that every car that was salvaged is advertised to be just a theft recovery, etc. Even if it was a good deal, I'd want to see complete documentation of the condition of the car BEFORE it was repaired, so you could make sure it wasn't driven into a bridge abutment and then repaired
IF you go with it, drive the car, beat on it, check it out REAL good. Take MULTIPLE car-guru friends with you to look it over.
Obviously, don't buy sight-unseen.
Salvaged Title's are OK depending on your plans for the car. Like myself - I have one (Now it's a "Rebuilt" Title), that I built up myself. The car will be burried with me.

If the car was a theft recovery its not that bad, but dont pay alot for it. I would stay away from cars that have frame damgage, or flood damage, because they are just a huge pita to get back to working condition. If I found a salvage evo that was stolen, I would concider fixing it up as a track car, or just beater, but I wouldnt rely on that as your only car, because of the problems you may run into in the future.
