Alright, this conversation has gone on long enough without me saying something, so here it goes.

At this point all signs are still pointing to the Evo VII. The cars that are being tested in Cali are Evo VII's. Every press release that I've seen says Evo VII. The letter from Mitsu's Regional Manager to the place I'm getting my Evo from says Evo VII.

The rumor that we're getting the Evo VIII is just that, a rumor. If you guys are relying on Motor Trend take a look at a couple of their earlier issues....they were also the one's who quoted 250hp Evo VII, then a couple of months later said 310hp Evo VII, now they say the Evo VIII....I don't believe them for one second. Next thing ya know Motor Trend will be saying it's coming as a Wagon

As far as release dates go....take note that those are JAPANESE release dates.....even if the Evo VIII is released next year, that doesn't mean WE will be getting it then.

What? You mean you didn't know? I also heard it may be coming as a pickup.

Actually the press releases said just Lancer Evolution or Lancer EVO without any numbers or roman numerals.

Hooby...

Hooby,

I'm new to the forum and this is my first post, but I believe you are wrong about the Evo 7.

I live in Fountain Valley, CA, not too far from the Mitsu office in Cypress. An acquaintence of mine works at the Cypress Mitsu plant doing R&D engineering, and we chat at happy hour now and then. About a month ago, he brought one of the two Evo 7's they have to happy hour. They have a black one with white mirrors and a white one with black mirrors (something about power mirrors). He brought the black one with white mirrors. The car is absolutely beautiful. It has the OZ edition wing, not the huge shopping cart wing (I'm one of the conservative 25 yr olds that gets busted on in this forum, and I don't like the ugly giant wing).

I missed out on a ride in the car because of a dinner date, but I'm a huge fan. If Mitsu brings us a winner, I will likely sell my vette.

Anyway, a week ago I saw my buddy at happy hour again. He confirmed what the local dealer also told me: the US will be getting the Evo 8. He's doesn't wear a tie to work, and he certainly isn't the one making business decisions, but he's probably in a better position than anyone else on this forum to know what's going on.

Personally, I'd like the 6-spd and bigger gas tank. ACD means expensive to fix! Mitsu, please gimme the most lightweight and powerful AWD 4-door car you can, and don't make it ugly. The Recaro's would be very nice to keep too.

That's all I know... take it or leave it. I just had to share.

That's cool man, just pointin out the info that I have.

I don't see why they would test an Evo VII when they're thinking of bringing over the Evo VIII.

Not to mention there's no HUGE signs of Japan even getting the Evo VIII next year.

Take a look at This Thread. That's the letter I got a copy of from Mitsu's Regional sales manager.

At this point I just see no reason why Mitsu, and all of the car business would be hyping the Evo VII, when we'd actually be getting the Evo VIII.

Thanks for the link. It's tough to argue with paper. However, one reason my local dealer (Huntington Beach, CA) isn't taking deposits is because they get so much conflicting info from "corporate." Maybe this is some of the conflicting paper they were talking about. I have my name on a waiting list, but no deposits allowed. They told me to expect at least a $5k markup at first. No way am I paying that!

Agreed. But car magazines, by their own occasional admission, typically take >6 months from writing the article to actual publication.

As for the functional rear wing... any of you foreigners or tuners have downforce vs. airspeed and drag vs. airspeed charts? I'd love to see them. I've never owned or driven an AWD car, but I understand you can control oversteer by hitting the gas (transfers weight to the rear tires). That somewhat negates the need for a rear wing. Unless you're concerned with ultimate roadholding at high speed, I think they're purely aesthetic. I know I'll probably never have the *****/stupidity to take a corner at over 100mph on the street, and I'll never have the bankroll to risk a car at a roadcourse track. All I'll ever do is autocross and drag race... for which a huge wing is just a drag.

Anyway, I'd like to say that this forum is great. I'm amazed that there are so many people like myself anticipating the US Evo. Cheers.

That's some great advice! Unfortunately, he rarely shows up unless his other buddy from RIT's Formula SAE, our mutual friend, shows up. :frown:

In case you don't know what FSAE is, it's about the coolest collegiate design series there is. I just gotta spread the news. Here's some links...

The white one with black mirrors sounds like an RS. The black one with white mirrors, uhh not sure what that one is?

I really hope they release the RS here
