I had an all balck TSI AWD, WAY FASTER then my EVO, but it was WAY modded, it was getting old and $$$$$ to keep runnng, so I got the EVO, no regrets, I LOVE DSM's though.

The 4G63 found in the DSM's was also in the EVO 1, 2, and 3......after that, they switched to a different 4G63. Same basic setup, but internals, camshafts, all that stuff won't work. Mainly due to the way the engine is mounted. The 4G63 you find in the DSM's have the cam gears on the driver's side while the late Evo cam gears are found on the passenger side. The intake track is also different. So even though it is the same motor, it is like it's 180 degrees out of phase from the DSM motor. Universal parts, like a boost controler or an S-AFC, will still work and are interchangable but don't expect to be able to buy a GSX ot a TSI and swap in some connecting rods from an Evo 8's motor. While I am saying it, don't expect to swap an Evo 8 motor into a DSM without some MAJOR fabrication. However, an Evo 3 motor would work good in a DSM, as long as you address the gear ratio difference. If you get an all wheel drive DSM and put an all wheel drive early EVO engine/tranny in it, be careful. The AWD DSM's had different gear ratios in the tranny than the Evo's and the end result is usually the front tires spinning at a slightly diffenent speed than the rear ones after a "JDM" swap is done. This will lead to the center differential burning up and you really really really don't want that.

I am pretty sure all that info is acurate.

yeah 10k for that GSX is pretty good. The dealer by me has a GSX with 30k miles and they are tryin to sell it for 19k.
I'd take the car to a shop and have them look at it before you buy it, a lot can happen in 50k miles, especially with the performance options for that car!

Don't forget to have the car checked out for the dreaded crankwalk syndrome. 95-99 turbo DSM's are notorious for it. If it has made it to 50,000 miles then it is probably ok, but still.........

Have a trusted Mitsu mechanic (are there any?) who can examine the lower end of the block and see if there has been excessive lashing inside there. The last I heard, Mistu actually has this taken for action now and there is a recall for the cars to have larger bearings installed and some other lower end hardware that should resolve the crankwalk that was so common on the 2G's.

www.dsm.org is a great place to check out anything DSM related if you don't know about it already.

Ok.........It's 2:52 in the morning here........I really need to get some sleep now.

Swapping an Evo 1-3 engine into an Eclipse has nothing to do with gear ratios or the transmission.

Most of the time when you buy a JDM motor, they throw in the tranny for free. I have seen people go ahead and swap them in because the Evo 1-3 trannies had the titanium shift forks where the DSM shift forks are made of a weaker material. When they swap the motor and tranny in, it screws with the final drive ratio to the wheels. I looked around a little bit and Road Race actually says that even the Evo 1-3 motor won't fit in the 1G DSM, but they do talk about the gear ratio issue.

"When calling these guys you may have to deal with some heavy accents. We ask for "four by four" on the transmissions. "Four wheel drive" can be confused with "front wheel drive" sometimes. AWD trans go from $450-700 including transfer cases. Feel free to to try to cut a better deal if they have the motor and tranny still in one piece. They will often discount it a bit if you buy both. Be careful about what trannies you buy. In Japan they have several different final drive ratios. Anything with close ratio gears or a LSD front diff will most likely have the wrong final drive ratio. Any tranny with a strange vacuum actuator hanging off the front will be very old and has the wrong gear ratios also. "

Anyway, just be careful as to what you get in to.
