RPM Jump

Can somebody explain me if its normal for rpm to jump after you press the clutch pedal? When I'm changing gears as soon as I press the clutch my rpm jums for 300-500 rpm. What could it be?

do you mean when you push the clutch in the rpm jump up?

sounds like you are on the gas or not letting off the gas fast enough

Have you tried cleaning the throttle body and checking the Idle Speed Control Valve (ISCV)? Mine did the same thing. When I would come to a stop or slowing down, after depressing the clutch, the rpm would rise. I cleaned the throttle body and problem solved.

It could also be throttle hang.

Can you describe in greater details on when it occurs? At stop, driving and changing gears, idle, etc?

Mostly when I'm driving, but when I stop my rpm stays at about 1500 for 3-5 sec and then drops to a 700-1000 depends on the engine temperature.

Try cleaning your throttle body with throttle body cleaner..about $4 at autozone. If it still does it, it might be your clutch.

To test you clutch go for a drive and at about 30 mph put into 5th gas it. If the RPM shoot and the car isnt going much faster..that might be it. But I would try the throttle body first since it is a cheaper fix.

I just had my transmission rebuilt, and new clutch installed, so I don't think it's clutch. So How do you clead your throttle body?

I got mine at autozone. I took my throttle body off, sprayed it clean and let it dry, then reinstalled it. Your situation sounds more like throttle hang more than anything.
