I can imagine the difference between the stock advans and the Blizzaks but I would be curious to see how much of a difference there is between the S Drives and the Blizzaks.

Since the S Drives just came out its kinda hard to get a comparsion. I'm the only person that has them besides one of my friends I just got for them.

I live near Baltimore. Don't drive in the snow with the Advans dawg. I almost wrecked my car.

Atleast put on an all-season tire. I have some Falken all-seasons on my stocker that I need to change over now.

if you can see the ground and it just happens to be snowing then you'll survive - but as soon as you try to stop the car on black ice or a bed of snow and BOOM! and another base lancer in canada get a real evo wing (if there are any left without one)

Blahh..I've been driving an evo since 2003 year round here in Southern Maryland with nothing but stock advans and have never had a problem. As long as you don't drive over your head in the snow and don't do anything stupid you will be fine with the stockers.

Low temperature is also an issue. The rubber compound the tire is made of actually hardens a bit. Think rubber balloon versus hockey puck.....or a new eraser versus an old, glazed one. one is sticky , the other isn't. Equals drastically reduced traction. Living in Vt. it gets cold with or without snow and in Nov. I can easily get my car sideways from a standstill with my summers (Advan) (No I don't have a ton of HP, which is the point).

Max performance tires will usually warn to not use them below 40 degrees.

Answer = Snow tires up here in the NE to be safest with snow/cold temps and at least all-seasons where the temp occasionally dips below freezing.

For what it's worth :]

Glad you decided on some different tires, tho I would have suggested some dedicated winters. The evo is so much fun in the snow with the right tires. I have more fun with it in the winter than the summer. Why have to drive all super carefully on summer tires in the snow when you could go ***** out with snow tires.

oh and the tires have just a little over 11,000 miles on them too.

i know that if there was an emergency situation, like someone slamming on their brakes, i would not be able to stop in time... so i dont drive my car at all unless its to and from work....
You are really doing a diservice to any new EVO owners that are unfortunate enough to find themselves in the snow without snow tires. Advans are EXTREME high performance summer tires. The compound is much more affected by temps than even a normal run of the mill summer tire. Run at your own risk. Put some real snows on and enjoy how well the EVO does work when equipped correctly. It is more than capable and a real blast, Other than the salt, grime, dirt the winter brings.

Hahaha Are you serious? We didn't have 9 inches in Chicago. I don't think you know what 9 inches is. We had 2-4 in the Chicago area. Schools did not even close. If we had 9 inches then everything would stop.

I remember last December we got 13 inches and that was just crazy, by far the most snow i've seen in a decade. Schools closed, businesses closed and I was one of the only fools on the street driving and I was loving every second of it. I had my Hankook Icebears and man do those things get traction and boy do they stop too!

On a side note I drove with the stock Advans my first season with the Evo. I drove the entire winter with Advans and when I bought it I drove it off the lot in a Blizzard with 4 inches of standing snow. If you drive right you can get by. I always made sure the I gave myself a few car lengths from the car ahead of me and I drove SLOW with both hands on the wheel. Every turn I made was a controlled drift! Needless to say I did just fine because I've done it before in other cars I had (my 95 talon tsi). Anyways I got smart and I got a 2nd set of rims hwere I now have a set just dedicated to summer and winter.

I too thought nothing of the stock advans when I got my car back in 04. One day leaving work I had no traction on what was maybe 2 inches of snow and had a rough time getting home. My first set was the Yokohamas lasted 60k, decent tire, good price point. I'm now on the Eagle F1's (month old) and was loving it yesterday..Great traction in both rain and snow. Relatively quiet. Both sets were all seasons.

You might be able to get by with the advans if you drive like a grandma but with snow tires such as blizzaks it is so much fun. You can pass people in the unplowed lanes without a problem.
