you shouldn't be braking hard enough for the abs to kick in....especially in the snow...hard braking doesn't work in the snow no matter what...ur gonna slide....try downshifting to slow down and lightly use the brakes...maybe you should just slow down...lol

that's weird.....is it supposed to do that?...i thought abs only kicks in when u slam on the brakes...i've hit mine kinda hard a few times and the abs never kicked in...of course now that i think about it i haven't driven a car with abs in the snow i don't think...hasn't snowed here in several years....just doesn't seem like the abs should instantly kick in like that...????

abs doesn't turn on if you "slam on the brakes" but if a tire begins to go into a skid it releases the brake pressure and reapplies it. If you aren't even able to apply the brakes lightly in snow without abs kicking on you need some dedicated snow tires.

The ABS brake is not suppose to stop your car on the dot. It's meant to keep your car in control so your car doesn't spin out. Plus evo is a heavy car to begin with. I don't know if this is true, for an AWD car, if the car is starting to slide. You're suppose to apply throttle and steer at the direction where you want to go.

ABS on the 08 Lancers engage pretty easily in icy conditions and sometimes is a pain.

actually, abs will stop faster than non-abs in the hands of a skilled driver. for example, 06 evo rs(nonabs) is lighter than 06 evo mr(abs) and yet takes longer to stop from 60 and 80 according to road and track, and these are definitely professional drivers working for the magazine.

its gotta be your tires then
abs only works when the car senses one of wheels are not spinning
if your tires cant grip the road good, they will lock up under light braking, and abs will try to compensate for that by activating itself

slamming on the brakes= wheel coming to a sudden stop=skidding=abs coming on

light braking=no skidding=wheel doesn't come to a complete stop until the very end of braking=no abs coming on

probably just bad tires with hardly any grip in the snow

On my past evo I used all seasons and ABS kicked in every now and then in the snow.

With this evo and snow tires, they've only kicked in once and that b/c I stomped on it on purpose.

btw the evo is a freaking tank in the snow with snow tires!

try driving in the snow with non winter tires or the stock tires you will quickly find out that you dont need to be no where near slamming on the brakes to lock up the tires

I was caught in the snow on my summer toyo proxes and it was god awfully scary. awd was usless the car slid like it was on skates. Abs? a little till it just locked me up I just prayed on physics to stop me. The next day i bought snow tires. Now I am hoping for snow so i can have fun not terror.

never pump brakes when you have abs... always use firm pressure...
