Hood pins

I am planning on getting a carbon fiber hood for my VIII. Is it really necessary to get hood pins or is there a company that makes the hood latch better than others.

thanks.

after you install your carbon hood pull on it by the latch really good and see if it moves or has any play, if it does i would get pins. On mine it latches very snug and ive had it for over a year with no problems..... but after seeing some damage from hoods with no pins im thinking of getting some just to be on the safe side...

I had a CF hood on 2000 Si. it was a seibon, so it was quality, and it looked good and fit great. BUT everytime I would drive down the road, at anything over like 35 the hood would start "shaking" and stuff...always scared the shish out of me. I never put pins on, but if I still had it, it would definately have a set on it

I'd put pins in. Nothing like taking a hood the windshield at 65 mph.

I have a carbon fiber hood on my Mirage. On the highway, I'd always see the hood start to move around alot. I got hood pins and solved the problem. Some people may not like the look of hood pins, but if they serve a purpose, then who cares.

^the wha wha wha?!

I would get them if
- I knew what you were talking about
- I knew where to find them

but to get back on topic..
I would strongly suggest hood pins..

My bonnet latch held my seibon hood well...running 128mph traps and doing speeds in excess of 155mph..

but I guess I was lucky....this next build I'm doing I would never take the chance.

Hood pins are affordable...
Buy them and install them....much cheaper than destroying your hood, windscreen as well as putting your life and the life of others in danger

Those Top Secret hood latches are about $70-$80, and require decent fabrication to the hood...but they look pimp. You can find them on eBay...Aerocatch makes nice ones, too.

As far as pins go, I've got a set of nitrogen hood pistons, as I hated the hood "crutch"... I've noticed that these raise up the line of the hood on the sides a good 1/4" above parallel... Assuming that most pins are adjustable, I should have nothing to worry about when I switch to a cf hood as far as excess tension on the sides leading to warping/cracking if I use pins?

It's a Seibon hood that comes with a latch... Anyone have any suggestions for replacing the stock hood spring to lessen the tension on the tip of the hood? Assuming I use hood pins, can I just do away with the latch altogether?
