Is the COBB Exhaust Muffler a Magnaflow?

The subject says it all. Foes the COBB Tuning Evo exhaust uses a Magnaflow Muffler. The Magnaflow website shows a SS Oval muffler with 3in In/Out. It has dimensions 5X9X18. I am looing for a quiet exhaust and I am deciding between the COBB and the Works TBE. I already have the COBB dimensions and need to get the COBB muffler diemensions. Since I cannot get good sound clips on them (specialy for the works) I will make the decision based on muffler size. I want the quieter one.

Either a
1) Works DP, RTP and COBB Cat Back (Works/COBB TBE)
2) Works DP. RTP, IP & ABM (Full Works TBE)\

Anyone know if it is a Magnaflow or have sound clips of them?

I know for their suby stuff they use Stromung exhaust parts. I would assume it is the same for the evo.

The other question is which setup would be quieter, COBB Cat Back or Works Cat Back. Asumming both use the exact same DP an Resonated Test Pipe. I am leaning toward Works since the resonator on their intermediate piepe (IP) looks bigger than the COBB one.

I have the cobb tbe....downpipe, test pipe, and cat back.....

I searched on exhausts for over 7 months before deciding on the cobb....I was orginally gonna get the full WORKS tbe.....the cobb was less money by about $500...that definitely helped in my decision.

Here is my take on the cobb tbe.....my most important criteria was sound. I wanted things to be quiet at idle and cruise...no in car noise at cruise was a must....so hence I wanted the sound to mimick stock sound at idle&cruise but of course I wanted more grunt at WOT and 3/4 throttle situations.

Okay, so I am so glad I chose the cobb, less $, great quality, overall satisfaction is high. Even with the test pipe the sound is exactly what I wanted. a few decibels louder at idle and cruise...at cruise going 65 on the freeway I get no drone...but at WOT the exhaust shines....

Now the cobb tbe with test pipe only saves 21lbs from the stock exhaust.....allot of other exhausts save allot more weight....but my main criteria in choosing the tbe wasn't weight loss....it was quiet sound....and since it doesn't save as much weight as allot of the other tbe's out there....that is okay because the sound is muted exactly how I wanted.

If you want a sound clip of my car go to youtube...type in..."COBB EVO"...the first vid should be of a GG evo at IA Performance on the dyno....it is not the best clip but it should help....ignore the white smoke coming out on the run...it was the first pull with the exhaust on and the weld packing was getting blown out.

I hope this helps....Also if you go to www.iaperformance.com they have the vid of my car on the main page...maybe that would be easier to find...also....call stephen the owner...I think he still has free shipping on the exhaust

I almost forgot...the fitment of the cobb tbe is ideal...plenty of room for the downpipe...no rattles or anything when driving

The RRE Stealth Catback is quiter than the Cobb. When it comes to 3" exhaust systems without reductions inside, the RRE is the quitest at idle and at cruise. Above 65 mph, you will have probelms though. That will be the case with any of the real 3" systems. Unless you purchase an exhaust with resonators that neck down or a baffled exhaust, it will be significantly louder than stock in all areas. I've come to accept that if you want something quiet, then stick with the STOCK exhaust. I'm so picky, the stock Evo 9 exhaust was still somewhat too loud for me. That's part of the reason I only drive the car on weekends. Within 2 weeks of installing the RRE exaust, I installed a modified QTP 3.5" cutout valve inline with the new exhaust. It is much quieter while cruising and only somewhat quieter while at idle. When I want maximum flow, the valve is opened.
Even the systems that neck down inside, (Apexi World Sport & Noir, Greddy SP2, Tanabe sytems that claims to be under 93 db), they are all louder than stock. There is nothing that is just like stock. If you want more flow with the least increase in noise possible, look into a Works Stealthback exhaust mod. If you want loud sometimes and stock at other times, look into the QTP downpipe.

Ok so anyone know how the COBB compares to the Works. Works now have 10% off and free shiping and I am in Puerto Rico so pricewise the diff between the two setups is less than $100. If money is not considered which one will be the better and quieter exhaust?

First, I didn't realize you were in Puerto Rico...so I doubt that IA can ship there for free like I said above....but it still worth a shot at asking........and you're sure WORKS will ship to P.R. for free???

I can tell you this...you won't be sorry with the sound of the cobb...I am big stickler on not wanting a booming exhaust...I heard allot of different exhaust in person...WORKS excluded...and the cobb tbe has been by far the most stock like sound except at WOT

Either way you go I don't think you'll be disappointed

Works will not ship to PR for free but they will give me the 10% off and 50% off shipping so will end up paying about $100 for S&H of DP, RTP, CatBack, Brin Flash & Filter which is preety good for PR. If I know I will be quieter with COBB I dont mind paying a lil extra. But if it is the same I prefer works to have just one order. Also if I get a ticket for the pipe (or noise) I can just put the stock muffler and leave everyting else installed. Go to the station with the muffler and then take it back when I get home again. Easier than removing the whole Cat Back, but that hoppefully will not be a problem. I have not being stop in my Integra for muffler in years.

Looks like no one have or have heard the Works TBE????? They do not have any dB numbers in their website.

You should definitely call IA and find out what type of deals they can get on shipping to PR....maybe they can be competitive on the shipping so the cobb comes out cheaper....overall the works tbe even with 10% discount on the exhaust is still over $300 more expensive than the cobb.

Also, with the full cobb tbe there is the dp, tp, intermediate pipe and lastly the muffler....so you could just as easily swap out the muffler section like you described above.

I too have a works filter and I love it!...make sure you get their cleaning kit.

I think on youtube there are like 2 or 3 different exhuast clips for the works tbe....I personally think the cobb will be quieter....that is why they listed their db levels to prove how quiet it is....and as I said already I can attest I am extremely picky about not wanting ANYTHING that was going to be the "Proverbial" LOUD...and the cobb is spot on perfect!!

CPA5,

I did call IAP and talk to Steve. He told me that he could send the COBB via USPS Priority which will be a lot cheaper to PR than UPS or FedEx. He answered all my questions and seemed like a very nice guy. Thanks for the heads up.

I saw in the COBB Forums that you also heard the Fujitsubo RM1A exhaust. How does it compare to your COBB exhaust in noise. I know the Fujitsubo is about $250 more than COBB. But I am just curious in the sound. I just have my car for over a month and there are not many Evos in PR (but many STIs) so I have not heard many Evo exhaust so far.

the tanabe medalion touring is queter then fujitsubo. But i never heard the cobb so i don't know about that. Also the tanabe quality and fitment is out standing .And the tanabe is cheaper then fujitsubo about $200-250. So if you want to decide between the cobb and fujitsubo the tanabe is defenietly worth to mention and thinking about.

All is true about the Tanabe exhaust but the inside of the muffler tapers down to ~ 2.65 inches. Quality and fitment is absolutely amazing.

Inside the straight flow through muffler, it tapers down to 2 5/8 inches = about 2.65. (bigger than 2.5 but smaller than 2.75 inches)

I measured it using a piece of cardboard taped on to a long screw driver. I kept trimming the cardboard until it was able to slide in and out of the taper easily.

Here are some pictures of the taper. Notice it is inside the straight flow through muffler.

How is the Cobb? Has anyone actually measured inside the muffler? So far there are mixed reviews on the cobb exhaust. Here is one were the customer was very displeased of the cobb exhaust https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=305575 .
