huge problem!! wiring harness

all of a sudden i parked my car, came back then noticed my stock alarm wasn't working right, car wouldn't start, inside dash light was on... had it towed to a nearby mechanic turns out they said some water over a period of time was leaking into my main wiring harness of the car, the entire harness was rusted up etc. pretty much lots of fing problems, called the dealer and for a new wiring harness it would cost around 3000 including labor to replace it. so i've been looking around for a used wiring harness, if anyone got suggestions or selling one for cheap or decent price please let me know. by the way i bought my evo 8 in 06 april so it's not even 2 years old. called the dealership and they kept talking towards the warranty not covering it.... of course they don't want anything to do with this car thanks in advance

Wow sorry to hear about that man... I guess you have aftermarket gauges installed?? I know friend of mine had bad water leak problem after he installed boost gauge... Unless you find crashed evo i don't really think you'll find used wiring harness... Good luck with that...

There was a recall for the seal that was supposedly responsible for that leak. If the car is still under warranty, and all of the recall work had been done, they should cover it under the warranty. Unless you bought the car used and it was for whatever reason flagged, it should still be something the warranty can cover. I would talk to another dealership.

There's probably more to this story than what was posted..

this is becoming more and more of a common problem you dont need a new harness youll just need to get the connections hard soldered together.

Dont take it to the dealer take it to a good mechanic and have the hard solder all the pins. Cost you a couple hundred at most. If you were out in the east here Id fix it up for you

Bull****. By law they're required to cover your warranty for anything you haven't messed with, and if you have messed with it, the burden is on them to prove that what you did led to the failure. For instance, they can't void your engine warranty because you have coilovers on the car. Especially if there's a recall or TSB on this, they should cover it without question.

The problem is, if they deny your warranty claim, it will cost you more than the repair to hire a lawyer to fight it out. You can always take them to small claims court, but you'd better research your local laws first.

Youll have more agravation/headache and no car for a while if you decide to bring it to mitsu.

Its not worth fighting it out with them for somthing so easy to fix. Plus you'll have the piece of mind that it was fixed right.

+1 Yes there was a recall in the 03's for some issue with water getting into the harness. Mine was actually repaired for this already before i bought the car.

that should be a warranty issue..its the manufacture problem that the water got in there in the first place..it should be sealed in the first place....try to ask the dealer about it....i would raise hell about this kind of thing to the dealer...
