MSRP Dealer Listing
bullfrg,
There's a huge discussion on mineral oil vs synthetic. Check out this link.
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ht=mineral+oil
At the crux of the issue is some people, especially Vishnu Performance, think with mineral oil (they recommend 5w 30, like Castrol or Penzoil), you get 10 or 20 hp more.
I've spoken with them and others and what I've been told is the varience could be accounted for by the ECU learning mechanism which can dial in performance based on driver input.
Those who broke in with a heavier foot would have more power regardless of the oil. Since the guys with the mineral oil are looking for more power, they drive the car harder and get more power. I don't know if this is true though.
Disconnecting the battery and let the ECU reset, then test cars that were broken in on both types of oil would be the best way to determine which if either works better.
A word of warning; Your owners manual says synthetic or you void the warrantee. So do the dealers and they can tell by the smell of the oil.
A Mitsubishi mechanic said that unless you flush the engine, some of the oils will mix and you'll get coagulated ***** if you run mineral oil which isn't good for lubrication.
I don't know what to believe, but I think Shiv Vishnu knows what he's talking about.
If you don't care about the warrantee, go for it. The car won't melt down.

No worries about the oil. I changed it at about 1200. First service is supposed to be 5000 miles! Get a new crush washer from Mitsu (or a dozen) if you do it yourself, otherwise the drain plug will leak. I also used a genuine Mitsu filter too so there would be no issues.
My two-cents is that it's not so much about which type of break-in oil you use but how you break-in the car. It's really about varying the revs and cylinder pressure in order to seat the rings in right. If Mitsu says Mobil 1 then why not? Wal-Mart has five quart jugs for about 23 bucks.
Good Luck!

well how about a thread talking about GOOD deals on Evos cause somehow I doubt there is a good deal....
I think its all a matter of how you make a deal with the dealer and the $$ you put down
But hey if there is loyal dealers to the public then I'm all for it cause I would like an Evo now ^_^ hahha *well after I learn manual*

good dealers
The Mitsu dealer in my hometown of Dublin, OH, was still charging the LOA charge of an additional $2,000.
Anyone in the Pacific Northwest Appleway Mitsu in Spokane said they would be willing to make the same deal I got on other Evo's. PM if you want any other info.
jrhecker: I think some of the dealers in California have even more Evo's then your dealer.

bllfrg: I just got excited!!
I should of assumed cali would have a larger inventory, there are a ton of auto enthusiasts in cali and florida. In the midwest 15 EVOs is a ton.. the main point is that i think this dealership does a fine job and the choices are many.
