HKS 272 cam question

well, im a rotary guy, so i honestly dont know the finer details of these crazy piston engines

im in the process of purchasing a set of 272 HKS cams for my evo IX, and am planning to get my car dyno-tuned in the somewhat near future...BUT, the question is....... can these cams be installed and driven on without any tuning done? would it hurt the motor? everything ive read on these cams says 30-40awhp AFTER tuning...

and if they dont hurt the motor (prior to tuning), would there be any noticable change prior to tuning? earlier spool, increase in torque, etc....i just wanna know how soon i can install these, or whether i have to install them RIGHT before i tune it

thanks everyone in advance for the responces!

well just remember the whole point of cams is to allow more air into the engine. More air + more fuel = more power right? So if you are not getting tuned to add the appropriate fuel to the increased airflow you will be running lean. We all know lean is bad. I ran my 8 with HKS 272s for 3 weeks before getting tuned but made sure to stay under 12psi or so just to be safe. Now in reality you probably wont break anything daily driving but I would NOT go WOT with no tune and cams.

you dont have to replace anything. Most people do the head studs while they are in there and then you are set if you ever want to run high boost with race gas or meth or alky. And of course if you run some high lift cams you will need new springs. But you def do not with hks 272s. And if you never plan to run 28+psi there is no reason to do head studs either.
