Anyone ever "recharge" their K&N filter

Today is the first time I started cleaning my k&n drop in using the recharge kit.

My question is, how much oil do I need to put on it? The filter calls for only 1 ounce of oil to be used, but the instructions say to make sure to put enough oil from the top "dirty" side so that the oil soaks in all the way to the botton and turn the bottom side "clean" side red.

I already put about 1.2 ounces of oil on it and waited for an hour but it still is not close to absorbing all the way to the bottom.

Any advice?

Thanks

As long as you have followed the directions and have re-oiled the the whole air filer than I think you are going to be fine.

But the direction contradict each other... (probably not, maybe I'm just retarded)

They say to use 1 ounce, but that is NOWHERE enought to make the oil soak through to the other side

Just put a layer of oil on all the raised ridges and let it soak down to the rest. Thats what I always do and I haven't ever had any problems. If you see any spots you missed get them. Don't make it harder than it needs to be.
You'll be good

Those dirs really depend on the thickness of the filter. Being you have the flat drop in style, it's a lot thicker then the cone styles so it takes quite a bit more oil to "soak" through to the other side. Personally when i had mine i blowed all the crap out with the air compressor, sprayed the the top and sprayed very lightly on the bottom and let it soak overnight, came back in the morning and it was nice and red with no dripping or globs anywhere no matter what direction you tip it - then you got it.

That's why I got the spray oil, and use it liberally.

I already put a layer on it, more like 1.5 layers.

Did yours soak all the way to the bottom to where the bottem raised edges were red? cause I BARELY see any red at the bottom. 1 once is only like 1/10 of the bottle.

Sould I add another good layer and let it soak overnight?

I'm getting tunned early tomorrow morning and I wanted to get my filter clean, since I had not done it before.

Thanks for all the advice so far guys.

Ideally you should use as little oil as possible while still having no white spots showing. It shouldn't take any longer than 20 mins to soak. The aerosol oil makes it much easier to do this than the squeeze bottle.

You don't want the filter to be soaked. You want it to just coat.

You're all honestly making this harder than it actually is.

Put a small amount where its not red yet. Then put the bottle down and walk away. You don't want too much on there. Your making this harder than it needs to be. Its OK bro everyone has a first time...

If your that worried about messing something up save urself the headace and go to advance auto parts and they will order u one and have it there the next day with no charge of ordering it for you. then you will have a properly oiled brand new filter, that you can just stick on.

Exactly, since the oil only soaks in, air flow across the oil medium has the potential of pulling it out of the filter and towards the engine. Probably won't hurt the turbo or the engine, but I wouldn't want that crap building up on my MAF.

There's a few issues with using too much.

1) it clogs the air and disturbs the flow. This would clear up over time
2) It goes to your engine. It's patrolium based though, so I can't see it hurting it.
3) it makes a mess

Honestly, I just get alittle on my fingers and rub them over the ribs and whatnot. You don't really want so much that it even feels greasy. :\
